Newb to SoloII? Questions???
there's an autocross section on this site, plus there's a great site: http://www.autocross.com that has FAQs, local schedules, probably links to rules. If you can't find Solo II rules online, go to a local event in your area and pick up a 2003 Rulebook. Lots of info on classing, etc. Also, in case you haven't done so already, visit the Racing and Competition Forum on this site. You can browse through old threads there. You will also find many decent books on Race/Solo driving at any good bookstore. I have a good one called Secrets of Solo Racing...forgot the author's name. The best way to find out if it's for you is to go to a local event, find some friendly drivers (most are cool, but some have ESIP --elevated self-image problem -- as is the case at any gathering of more than a few folks) and talk to them. They might even let you ride along as a passenger on a run if the rules allow. Good luck. JR
The best way is to find someone close to you, localy not emotionaly, who autocrosses and tag along with them to their next event. Having a rabbi that knows the ropes and can take you from registration, tech, drivers meeting, walking the course, grid and running will be better than reading volumes on the subject. Make sure that your guide through this takes the time and answers any questions, many forget the feeling of being a new guy. An optional slalom means you can start on either side, not that it is optional to do!
To all the seasoned autocrossers out there- please do this for at least one new driver a year and pass the knowledge to a new guy then have them pass it on to a new guy next year, and do not use the last points series race when you are trying to catch your arch rival in points to try to assist

Check out the SCCA website and look for Solo II events in your region. Just show up and ask for help. They will probably have a helmat for you to borrow and someone to show you the ropes if you ask. First, you have an advantage with a MINI because you will draw attention and many would probably like a chance to ride with you as an instructor. I had my own cheering yesterday made up of people I had never met before. It was cool. Since you race against the clock, don't worry about looking slow. A MINI always looks fast. This will be the most fun you have ever had! Go for it!

There is an autocross 13 July. Check this LINK it also has a link to pre register. I will be there and don't mind helping you through the basics. it will be my first event with the OVR SCCA, but we should be able to figure it out. I have a Blue Cooper with Virginia tags that read &1 CONE.
