Code P0301 Rough idle when cold

Hi all. My mini has had a rough idle when its cold for the last few weeks. Its also very sluggish when I first start to drive it. Today I got a check engine warning light with a P0301, "Cylinder 1 One Misfire Detected." Any ideas?

Check your plugs and check your coil. Could also be a fuel injector. You might have to switch around the FI with another and see if the problem follows to another cylinder and creates a new code like P0302 etc... If it does you have your answer. Get some Techron FI cleaner and see if that helps. If these things don't help then the next step IMO is to have a compression and leak down test to narrow it down. Don't be suprised if you need to have the head removed due to a bad valve which is common.

Braminator, thanks for the info. I dropped the car off at the dealer to have it checked out. I just wish it was till under warranty (I am stationed in Germany where they only recognize the warranty for 1 year).

52804x4, its a 2012 Countryman All4 S with just over 21k miles.

I got the Mini back from the dealer. They replaced the temp sensor. Again. For the third time...

Three days later and the check engine light is back on with the misfire engine code. I guess it wasnt the temp sensor...

Go to another dealer. I think IMO you have other issues. They need to do a compression and/or a leak down test.

I am stationed in Germany so there are not a lot of other dealers over here. The only dealer that I know of over here has proven on multiple occasions to not be very knowledgeable about cars. Also, Mini in Germany does not honor the warranty so I am totally SOL

Try to find an independent shop then.

I just got the Mini back from the dealer. There was a bit of a translation issue but from what I gathered there was coke build up in the intake manifold from bad gas. They removed the manifold and cleaned it out. I have heard of similar issues on direct injection engines so it seems reasonable. Luckily, it was covered under a warranty that I thought had already run out...
