So which weekend looks like the best? Clo's 20-21 Oct or 3-4 Nov? I'd love to drive up for either but the 2nd weekend in Nov, 10-11 would be great because I have Veteran's Day (12th) off

The date is set, the rooms are booked and we'll be there other cars or not because it's OktCloverFest.

Washington Staters doing the Dragon

On August 9 we will be picking up a 2005 MCSC in Fort Meyers Florida and driving it home to Washington State - and doing the Dragon on the way. Not sure of the date yet but we will avoid the weekend. We would appreciate any suggestions on routes to take, places to see, and places to avoid, etc.

We will be heading out of Florida on I-75 and then thinking about taking 129 / 441 to Athens but then it gets a little confusing about the best way to get to the Dragon. We also want to drive through The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We do not have unlimited time but we both want to drive the Dragon and maybe some of the other roads on note in the area.

Thanks for any suggestions and information.

Definitely eat at the Varsity in Athens, and the Dillard House in Dillard, on 441 near the Georgia/North Carolina border.

441 runs into 28 around the town of Franklin and 28 will take you to Fontana Village where most people stay while attending MOTD. This would be a great rest stop for you to explore the area a bit if you wish. If you choose to bypass Fontana Village the Dragon is where 28 and 129 meet up.

Good luck!

If you are coming up 75 the whole way, make sure you stop at the original Varsity in downtown Atlanta. Don't be surprised to have people screaming "What'ya have, What'ya have". It's a fun place. If you are coming through Atlanta there are some other cool places to visit too. Send me a PM, maybe we can have a mini mini run.

Franklin is a cool little town and Dlope has it dead on. If you have GPS just find something at the tail end of the dragon (no pun intended) and map it once you get above 75/575. Otherwise, I can post some good directions from Atlanta to 129. It's sorta famous / infamous around here.

Like Jason, I'm in both clubs, M2C2 and THMMC, an active poster and participant in Motoring activities, so welcome! Oh, and I'll be there at least for part of this, I have yet to make an official Dragon run!

Maybe Jason or the Lil' cat ;-) can start a thread in the SE forum, with the roll call?

I think you can count on some THMMC folks from the Raleigh area - several folks here have expressed an interest... I'll shout out to our group and see how big a party we can make.
