Hi, thinking about a 2013 JCW or 2013 GP for tracking.

Can anyone who has experience with the 2 shed some light?

 

GP2 is far better stock for the track.

The GP suspension is height adjustable coilovers with spring rates suitable for light track duty. Also GP comes with slotted front top mounts with more negative camber. You would be looking to spend $2-3k to upgrade JCW to same level.

The GP brakes are more suitable for the track. Larger calipers, 6 piston vs 4 piston, much larger discs etc.

GP comes with R compound tires stock, which are suitable for track work.

There are other smaller features which make the GP more suitable as well.

On the donwside you lose functionality for daily use, no rear seats, no cruise control, no rear wiper, no steering wheel audio or phone controls, downgraded stereo system, more bumpy daily drive etc.

 

In the end I don't think it really matters. GP2 will have a higher initial buy-in but the JCW will require mods to make it the same as the GP2. Personally I'd just get the JCW. That way you can better tailor the suspension to what you want to do versus just what mini decided everyone was getting when they built the GP2.

I will say that the mini is not short on brakes on the track. Either the JCW or GP2 is more than capable in that regard.
