Yep,

N18 airbox => N14 JCW Tuning airbox

You will have to buy the whole N14 box with the 4 screws: 13717577509

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/13717577509/

Then replace the top portion of the new N14 airbox with JCW Tuning kit top half.

John Cooper Works Tuning Kit Intake part # 13720429380

&

John Cooper Works Tuning Kit - Air Box With Tube Filter - Gasket Part # 13530433064

Also can go to the pipercross foam filter if you like.

Thats it.

So I bought the N14 airbox and the JCW top airbox, but I ran into fitment issues. The bottom part of the JCW airbox that sticks out (first pic) is hitting the silver thing in the second picture.

Is there anyway to fix it? I've taken off the part that sticks out for now, but the airbox is no longer sealed. :/

Is there a reason why one would go through all that trouble purchasing both kit parts to make one Intake System ?

Will just Part no. 9 below for $135.00 suffice ?

Part no. 13712217674

It's because I wanted the JCW intake with the cone filter. And JCW cone filter was only for N14 engines. In order to fit to an N18, you needed to buy the N14 airbox to make it fit.
They do have a JCW intake for N18s, but it has a panel filter instead.

When you buy the JCW intake, it only consists of the top portion of the intake, as opposed to the whole airbox you see in the parts diagram.

Yea, its the newest design on the fuel pump on the N18. it just comes out a bit more because of that line. But I did not think it would come that close, because I have seen it on other N18. First I have seen this tried on an N18 3/2012+ with an extended hose.

What year is your MINI. At worst I would notch that top lid bottom section and them seal it with tape or duct tape. Let me know if you can mod the upper box.

In some cases I have seen where a mod can be "over thought". I'd just get the hi flo panel filter from piper cross or similar. Spending 400 + then cutting it up may not be the best route.
Unless there are specific documented hp gains with the cone over flat air panel filter.

There's 3 different Intakes from the factory for the R56

The standard Cooper S one with a panel filter with a flat top.

The Stage 1 Jcw intake with a cone filter inside.

The Factory Jcw uses a similar intake to the Cooper S but the top half is completely different. It's more rounded and much bigger. It uses a panel filter inside.

I would assume the factory jcw one is the best one since the Gp uses the same system as well.

My GP was March 2013 production.

I was going to shave the plastic and duct tape it at first, but i was scared that the tape might melt.
I ended up removing the plastic part that stuck out and replaced it with a sheet of aluminium that i cut and drilled.
The airbox is mostly sealed now. There is only a small gap since my aluminium sheet just wasnt quite big enough. I will see if i can find a bigger piece of aluminium later and have it properly sealed.

Oh and thanks ECS Tuning for the speedy shipment of the intakes

Interesting, so this won't work on the GP without modification.

Panel filter it is, then.

I've got one for my GP as I really like the JCW intake since it showed good torque numbers. Taking off the little res box on it is no big deal so I wouldn't let that scare you.

But if you do go with a panel filter go with the dry filter as it won't put any oil in the sensors.

I'd rather a plug-and-play setup - not into jury-rigging an intake. And $300+ to make it all work is a bit steep.

The aFe dry panel filter was at the top of my list, though - had one on my GTI.

gasket

I'm thinking upgrading to the JCW stage 1 intake as well. Couldn't I just cut out the rubber gasket from the paper filter that's in there and use it for the seal?

No the panel filter is not the gasket. There is a separate gasket along with the paper filter and its own built in gasket (which really isn't a gasket, but more of a place holder).

Yep, separate gasket is up top and the filter is a tube version.

Maybe I didn't ask the question correctly but after my install it is a YES...

If you are upgrading to the JCW stage 1 intake, you take the old panel filter and cut out the rubber gasket around it (cut away the paper filter) and saved $28.18 + shipping.
