Jcw low trade in values?!
So what did you get it for.......
23.5k. They were asking almost 26, but having referred people there the week before (and being related to people that work there
), they got me a good deal.

If someone paid a pretty significant premium to get a JCW, IMO it is safe to say they spent the ectra $$ to buy the performance......so anyone looking at buying a used JCW, could rightly assume it was driven pretty hard....with even you, the orgional owner nervous about owning it out of warrenty, what do you think anybody else is gonna think....
with a S, a buyer might get lucky and find a lightly driven s, but the price diff for the jcw is so much...this seems unlikely till a few years .....

Honestly if you are trading in a car you bought less than 2-3 years ago you have no business buying anything (if you are expecting a car to hold it value) Those first 2-3 years are going to kill you on almost any car. Look at a 2009 Scuderia with 2k miles on it, you can pick one of those up for more than a 1/3rd off original retail..... Just mentioned that because I love that car
I'm buying my car and plan on keeping it for at least 5 years....and above all else...enjoy it!

Didn't base my decision on deprecation
OK try this one on. I turned 70 last April. Decided my 06 MCS was not fast enough so I ordered a JCW conv with all the packages. Major delay in production because of parts coming from Japan that were needed for MINI Connected. I really don't care what the value will be in five years because I feel the need, the need for speed. I guess my only disappointment is that conv with popups can't participate in "Track Days". My first Mini Cooper was a 970 circa 1965 ? then a 1275 in 1967? So this CR JCW "Maude" will probably be my last. So you youngsters keep an eye out for me and you better wave.
I was also disappointed to find that I couldn't participate in many track events with my convertible unless I installed a roll bar or cage, but convertibles are just fine for SCCA Solo (autocrossing) without such modifications (in most classes, at least - if you move up to the "Prepared" class, a roll bar is required, and I don't know if the factory one qualifies).
Zppiy. I agree with you on the warranty with these cars that is for sure. But the 4/50 warranty transfers along with roadside assist and oil changes. Couple that with the discounted price and in a couple of years I'll easily slip outa this with some cash in hand for the next slightly used one.
That is the benefit of buying a "slightly" used car, the original owner takes the hit for you.
As far as it being driven hard...who cares? That's like worrying about how every guy "drove" your wife before you married her!

On my gen1 i broke her in lightly, and slowly....and she is still a tight motor, no blowby, no leaks, no oil buring, even all tuned up and modded..many folks broke them in hard and fast...and wonder why they burn 1 qt per 1000 miles....if you plan on driving it till the wheels fall off...treat her nice, and she will do the same to you.....especially if you are her first!!
Don't worry, I will treat her very well

I will say one thing....

Carmax just offered me 20k for my 2009 JCW with 48k miles.
Original MSRP 32k.
I refuse to pay $2800 for extended warranty so may be ordering another JCW,a Countryman S(love my daughter's non S CM),BMW 135 or Audi TT.
I know,very different cars,but not really.......

I just traded in my 09 JCW last week. It had 34K on it. I was rear ended last summer which required replacement of the bumper cover, so that showed up on the CarFax report. The dealer gave me $17.5K in trade, and I also got over $3K+ off sticker. I might have done better, but I wanted the car and it was the last one available in St. Louis.
I'm happy. I have a new car. I was getting bored with the JCW and the torque steer never stopped annoying me. I wanted to wait a couple years and get a BMW 1 series, but they just keep getting more expensive and out of the range I want to spend.

Dang, that's low.
Congrats on the STi. I'm waiting to see the new non-Impreza body style (hopefully 2013 and not 2014) and I may be joining you. Can you share your experience of going from a JCW to the STi? What are you missing so far? Does it feel a lot heavier? Brakes? What do you like better? Just curious...

trading in my sti on the jcw was the worst mistake of my life and I was lucky as far as zero warranty work other than the hpfp.
best day in my life was selling the jcw.
the only reasons the jcw was a let down was that when stock it was slow, understeered like a pig and build quality like a 80s hyundai or yugo.

The real story is I bought my wife a Dark Gray STi the day before Thanksgiving. I enjoyed driving it so much -- and it reminded me of my M3 -- that I went out last week and bought the second WR Blue one for myself. So we actually have two identical STIs, differing only in color.
I do not miss the MINI. I was getting tired of it anyway. I wanted more power, and I ended up never really enjoying the power it has because of the awful torque steer you get when you put the throttle down. It's just too unstable that way on public roads.
The STI brakes are awesome: 4-pot Brembos on the front and 2-pot on the rear, so that's a slight improvement over the JCW. I got the STi with the short-shifter kit, and I gotta say, this is the best shifting gearbox I have ever driven. It is so precise and tight it is a true joy to drive. Big improvement over the JCW. Heel-toe shifting is also a lot better. The pedal placement works better for me, and throttle blips are much more responsive: work just like they should. The JCW, even in sport mode, just didn't blip very convincingly at lower RPM.
The JCW was great fun, but I just quite never got over not having my M3. The STi brings me much closer to that than the JCW ever did. I would have rather bought a BMW 135i, but that brand is pricing itself into the stratosphere, so I settled for something more economical.
The only thing I miss is the great steering wheel and the steering feel. I have no other regrets.

Sti "hydrualic assist" has better steering feel and feedback the mini "electric assist"has 0 natural steering feel.I hate electric power assisted steering
I disagree. My BMWs and MINI have all had much better steering feel and feedback. It's the one thing I really don't like about the STi. I do not feel like I'm as connected to the road, at least for normal driving on public roads. Maybe in a performance situation on track the steering is better, but for everyday driving the BMW and MINI have better steering. What I did not like about the JCW on track is that it understeered too much, but the steering feedback was great.

What you are feeling is the awd diffs working and masking some of the feedback.awd cars will never have the steering feedback that a great"e30"rwd car will have.
The mitsu evo is a little better when it comes to feedback because of the different style of diff they use.
Mini and bmw use artifical intel to simulate road feel,so in other words a software program like logitech uses when designing a force feedback gaming wheel.
Thanks for sharing guys. The only thing that keeps me shy about the STi is the styling. I like it for the most part, but part of it comes off a bit "Fast and Furious" for me. The 5 door less so, but seems like it would feel like driving a land yacht coming from the MINI. I really would like to see a 2 door hatch, a little bit better gas mileage and bringing back the gold wheels. Is that wishful thinking?
