Spark plug changing interval?

I don’t have my manual around me but I was looking up spark plug changing intervals and found this.

100,000 miles (Cooper)
60,000 miles (Cooper S)
30,000 miles (with JCW kit)

Does anyone know what the sparkplug life is for a factory JCW? If it decreases from a 100K to 60K to 30K for a stage I kit, what does that mean, that the factory JCW is at 15K?

Anyone have their manual?

Thanks,

Mark

Ords,

I appreciate it, I guess I had better order some new plugs... pushing 34K.

Thanks,

Mark

Being that this would be considered an "emissions" issue, wouldn't this be covered under warranty?

Stage 1 JCW is every other oil change. Which would be about 30k based on MINI standards. I change my oil every 5k and will do plugs every 20-30k.

I'm over protective and ****.

I would also recommend changing the spark plug coils at every 60K or so on an R56. I just lost one on my S at around 64K and replaced all 4 to be safe. The car will be undrivable when you lose a coil. So it's a good idea to keep a spare coil or two handy when that happens.

Piece of advise for changing plugs make sure you check them every now and then not sure on the R56's but on the R53's they work themselves loose and actually pop out possibly stripping the head. Had this happen to my last MSC after I sold it. New owner paid $$ for a new head.

Not sure if that’s a problem but when I pulled them to check the compression, they were tight from the last time I had pulled them. (that was 20-25K miles ago)

So hopefully not a problem.

Thanks,

Mark

OC, next time consider looking at rockauto.com. Eddie and I got ours Pfrom there at around $48 shipped to you door. Same NGK plugs. Did mine at 30k as well. The plugs do look normal but do look a little worn with slightly larger than normal gap.

I was going to look at outside sources to buy the plugs but once I had it in my head I was going to change them, it was easier to just have the dealer deliver them to my shop.

I figured with my discount, how much could they possibly be?

I'll know better next time.

At least you got free delivery to your door when you needed it. I did have to wait two days for mine.

Did you feel any difference in the car after changing the plugs. I have to say, I did not feel much difference after changing mine.

What is the spark plug gap for a factory JCW?

Also Mark, what were your compression numbers like from cylinder to cylinder?

You should call me when you need stuff, I'd let you take it off my bill.
I keep those spark plugs in stock and cheaper than $72.

I recommend replacing them every 30k on any JCW, or any car with a tune.

The gaps are pre-set, but for those really wanting to know, here they are.

PLZKBR7A-G = 0.9mm (Platinum)

ILZKBR7A-8G = 0.8mm (Iridium)

Czar, it's a there a NGK plug in a copper-electrode equivilent for those who don't want platinum or iridium?

Good maintenance practice would have you changing them at 30,000.

Just took my R58 JCW in to Mini N. Scottsdale on Friday, for a failing battery which they replaced. The SA agreed to do my (last under warranty) oil change early (July 2016) and change the spark plugs at 23,000 miles. He said they change 'em about every other oil change and this is my 3rd one.

Crazy. Change 50K. Not every other oil change. They're squeezing you.
