Rough running on start up

I recently took my JCW in for a first checkup, 6k miles. It was running rough when starting then cleared up. To my supprise a couple hours later they called me to tell me it would be $600.00 to remove my gas tank and install new filters and clean out bad gas because the alcohol level was at 16%. Personally I think they are full of BS, I use nothing but premium grade gasolines purchased from BP, Sunoco or Chevron. This isn't what I call cheap gas which is what the mechanic says. I forgot to mention the car is six months old. Anyone have any ideas?

Don't let them give you the bad gas excuse. There is a well documented problem with the high pressure fuel pumps MINI uses. I got mine replaced under warranty 1k miles ago. I had approx 32k on the car when they replaced the pump.

Is your car stock? If not, did the dealer give you any problems before getting it fixed under warranty?
