LiLReD1On the R55? Hmm. Not like it matters to me, I'd spend the extra $$ and get coil overs anyway.
Ooops you are absolutely right, I was configuring a R56 with the JCW suspension. Man that sucks for the R55 people. Wonder what the deal is with that.

If someone wants to keep it all JCW and factory, I can see why it sucks... but in my case, I wouldn't buy one with the JCW suspension.

sorry, i made a tiny mistake. The rear calipers are actually the same, they're just spaced further away from the hub to fit the larger rotor

2908 vs 211 hp

Interesting thing: The Press Release says "155kW/211bhp, 207hp"

However,

155kW = 210.7 metric hp and

155kW = 207.9 hp

So, with rounding up, 211 metric hp and 208 hp...
Europe gets the 211 hp, while there has been a slight change for USA versions. Same with the torque figures, I believe.

Don't know. MINIUSA.com has the same hp/torque figures posted that it had last year (208/192). Can't really find any indication on the site as to 2009 or 2010, however...

nah Euro hp (PS or metric hp) is not the same as US hp. 1 PS = 0.9863 "US" hp

211 PS = 208 hp

+1 I like a sleeper, but this is done wrong. It should have extra goodies to show under the hood. Small hints on the outside to give suspicion the all questions are answered when the power plant come to life.

Motoringfile talked about the new Engine Upgrade Today. Apparently the S is getting 7 more hp and the factory JCW may get some changes as well but that information is still in the works and not yet released - they hinted that jcw changes will come later in '11. The S changes will happen in the '11 model year starting sometime in september '10 productions. Of course all this comes to us in the states a little late since europe and other markets are seeing the upgraded engine as soon as this month's (march) production. I have to ask why are we treated like second class citizens? Arent' we the largest mini market in the world? I want a jcw club man but now I'll wait for two reasons. 1) to see what the jcw specs will be for '11 and 2) to see what this does to market for the older '09-'10 market? There may be deals to be had?

My guess is not much. I think the population of JCW's is too small. The uniqueness and exclusivity are the drivers. Even if other faster factory models come out, the 2009's will always be the first. I would think the parallel is something like Corvettes.

corvette? Not so much. Actually I would not want to compare my 09 JCW to an old dinosaur, But if we must I think the concept would be more like..
Mini=Mustang
Mini S=Big Block Mustang &
JCW = Cobra Jet or Shelby Mine even has stripes close to a Shelby.

Corvette not so much. kind of sounds like towelette. I mean you would not eat a steakette of drink a Beerette would you? JMHO

I don't know, about that, I bought my jcw convt for invoice in Feb. I see similar cars like mine still available today. They may be exclusive but they are 1)foreign built (just saying foreign built collectibles on average don't do as well as domestics here in the US) 2) expensive 3) already getting old and not really moving on the lots. 4) and the prospect of a refresh and engine upgrade only seem to undermine the 09 and 10 market in general. Hey, this is just my opinion. And maybe I'm wrong.

No, just the parallel regarding how the market has gone. Newer models are much more capable (power, handling, fuel economy) than the older ones, yet the older ones continue to increase in value. I'm not saying that MINI's will experience exactly the same, but I think it should be similar. Actually, did the coming of the MINI decrease the value of the Mini's? Don't think so. I think, if anything, they went up.

Well, I hope you're right, but I doubt I'll be seeing my money back on resale. My dealer says the same positive thing until you try to sell him back your mini then it's another story.

Good points, nice post. This calls for a distinction between near time resale and resale over time.

As far as immediate resale value, I am not sure how one would expect to keep value in this economy, or even gather good data that means anything. But over time I would expect my car to hold value better then average and that is a good thing to me. I bought mine from a friend that had to sell. I got a great deal so not a lot of value held there. But once I get her back to the US I think it should be fine.

Funny, I keep missing my exit and have to drive an extra 20 home from work each day. I hope it can stand the extra pounding because at this point I'm not selling. LOL

Yes, that's a good distinction. I'm not expecting any appreciation in the near term. On the other hand, I don't think the depreciation curve will look near as steep as for many other brands. The MINI, in all its guises, is a very unique car. That's the hook...

People should remember that although Ford had a 100th year celebration in Dearbon a couple of years ago, it was MINI that had MINI 50 parties all over. Hard to find that kind of loyalty anywhere else...

Really

I had to sit on my Hemi Charge 30 years for that. Not thinking this is that.
