How Does the JCW Ordering Process Work?
How Does the JCW Ordering Process Work?
I've dreamed of a Mini for a number of years, and I'm a few months away from placing an order for a JCW Mini. I am somewhat confused by what I hear from dealers that I have talked to. I am told that the dealers have an "allocation" for JCW cars and I am not sure I understand this. I can go to Mini USA and configure a JCW car the same as I can a Mini S, Mini or Clubman, I can then send this to a dealer and pay my deposit and get a car , Right? So what is the allotment have to do with this? Do dealers only get a few JCW cars to sell, and if my chosen dealer has sold all their allocation, they can not sell me a car? Is this the same for the other models? I'm sure I am missing something here, but I don't get it. I will most likely not be ready to place my order for a few months, as I'd like to pay off a few debts before I buy my Mini, but I don't want to wait and find out that I can not get on at all. Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this issue.
Each month a dealer is allotted a specific number of each MINI model to sell. Dealers get their allocations about 5 weeks before the build month.
You should check with your dealer to see if they have a waiting list for the Works model and get on the list.

You should be able to order a car regardless of allotment, but you'll likely just get put on a waiting list. If I were to order a JCW now in SoCal, it would enter production around January I've been told. Best thing to do is call your dealer and ask.
Indeed, it's just paying a deposit to reserve a production slot.
The process is the same for the JCW as other MINI models. My dealer happened to have a few JCW slots open, whereas the wait for the MC or MCS was into December.
Build your car and send it to the dealer...give them a $1K deposit and get your loan papers in order if you need one and thats it. You can order a JCW anytime you want there is no maximum amount the dealer can take orders for. Then the wait begins 8-12 weeks unless you get luckyto find one on the lot you like. Good Luck

You are all correct - being an MA I see orders in the system that are awaiting production numbers to be assigned. Normally we pull production numbers from cars that have been "preconfigured."
On a side note - I have a PW/PW JCW Cloth interior, HiFi, Xenons and Rear Fog. That's it. 30,300 plus the upcharge for the slotted rotors we're putting on.

Did i get luck or something the day i ordered my JCW I got a production # 2 days later i checked owners lounge they had my order in ready for pro. a week later my salesman said your car is in production. Maybe cause my dealer is Factory Owned?
It really varies depending on the demand for that model at that specific dealer and how many cars the dealer is allotted that month. When I ordered mine, the dealer already had a production number for a car that month that nobody had claimed. So, they just revised the order to match my specs and things were pretty quick. Had I wanted a MC/MCS etc., I would've had to wait until December as they a waiting list on those cars.
