What you fail to realize perhaps is this is where all the war wounded come. Germany is more involved in the conflict than most know.

I'll leave you alone. Sorry if I was a bit brash. Most of it was just for entertainment value. But you started it when you referred to me as "it". Be nice and you won't have to deal with any angst.

BTW, I don't doubt you stand behind your country. The fact you mentioned it speaks volumes. Most seem to just want to take and not give back anything.

Cheers!

I highly respect the men & women serving our Country. I am involved in raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ I was a little rubbed wrong buy one of your comments so I fired back...my apologies to you.

I am very involved in the Corvette community, many service people come to me that are in Iraq and Afganistan for their parts because they know I will take care of them.

I stand behind the sacrifices you and others make every day. My Grandfather also served in WWII in Italy, Germany and Spain.

Been to the Ramstein base many times in the late 80's...

Thank you for your service to our country and stay safe.

Any correlation between BMW/MINI engine break in procedure per the owner's manual (taking it easy the first 1200 miles, varying revs (under 4500 RPM, etc.) and the 2002-2003 M3 issue with owners over revving and blowing their motors?

Also, regarding oil change after breaking in a new motor, what is the correct procedure? Honda told me to leave not change the oil until 3750 miles on my previous car, due to some break-in additive. There has been debate that this is a myth. However, on our G35 the Infiniti service advisor recommended an oil change at 1250, which we did.

Finally, do you guys use Castrol, Royal Purple, Mobile One 5w-30 synthetic?

Oil Change

Where do you go to get 1K Oil change at? At the Dealership?

I just received my mini tonight..I'm so excited about her. Dealer actually drove car to me and she has almost 300 miles on her. I'm reading about changing the oil at 1K. Where have you all had that done? At the dealership?

I'm very hesitant as to taking my mini anywhere other than a Mini Dealer. I had an 04' Mini Cooper and had numerous problems with her..especially after a Local Car place put the oil filter in wrong and caused many many problems.

How much is an oil changing running now? I got rid of my 04' PW Mini in 2007 and just today bought a 09' MY Mini.

Thanks -

From the MINI Owner's FAQ

I have a 2008 MINI Cooper S. My neighbor that used to be a mechanic says that I should have my oil changed after the break-in period because there might be metal shavings in my engine. The dealership didn't mention any of this. I love my MINI and look forward to a long life with her. What should I do!?!

For decades, automobile engines were manufactured in factories that often could not machine parts to very close tolerances. But today’s automobile engine, and in particular, the one under the bonnet of your MINI, is manufactured in a vacuum by robots right next to supercomputer chips. Some say open heart surgery is often not as sanitary as our Hams Hall plant. OK, I can’t back any of that up, but in truth, our 1.6-liter engines are manufactured to incredibly close tolerances, some as little as .0005 inches. With such precision and cleanliness, metal shavings that would normally result from the machining process are practically eliminated during the subsequent manufacturing and assembly processes. In the end, it is not necessary to change the oil out right away. Rather, let the car’s on-board computer tell you when it’s time to refill your crankcase for the first time.

Didn't want to start a new thread so I've decided to add on to this one.

This what Cobb Tuning have to say about the break in process:

This is a great thread, and a topic I have given a lot of thought to as a motorcycle racer. I have always believed in breaking it in using the full rpm range. It doesn't make any sense to me to when a mfg. tells me to vary the rpm and keep the rpm low, somewhat contradictory. I won't take my new car right to a trackday, and I don't plan to be rough on it for the first couple thousand miles, but I am planning a more aggressive break in.

Also, as stated by others in this thread, I don't necessarily think the mfg. always has our best interest in mind. Their recommended break in procedure may well be what they have determined is most likely to get the car through the warranty period. I am sure they would be willing to sacrifice a few peak hp. or even long term reliability to get the car to the end of the warranty.

I don't do this because I lack the patience to wait, or because it is more fun. This break in method has been recommended to me by engine builders that I trust. I am very curious to know if MINI can tell from the computer what I did during break in, and possibly void my warranty. If they could that might change my mind.

edit: The recommendation by Cobb Tuning is basically the same as my engine builder recommends, and what I plan to do.
