Question Union Jack Taillights -HELP anyone removed F60 taillights?

Hi all ... F57 owner just added an F60 to the fleet. I can't have one car with UJ taillights and the other without so I found these. Not cheap but a very cool addition.

I tested them electrically and they work perfectly - BUT - I can't get the existing taillights out. I think I messed things up and I can't get the original one seated again fully (argh!).

Anyone have any pointers? I'm going to probably have to ask the dealer for help ...

thanks to this forum (and sdupp!) for the instructions!! Once I figured out how to get the rubber water channel thing out, it was just a few minutes work! They are a little pricey, but I had to match the existing F57 tails - couldn’t have one looking out of sorts!

heres the finished look. Cool bonus, they fade up and down at startup.

That's honestly not that bad a price, similar style lights for other models go for around that price. I am interested in getting for the wife's car, can you post a pick of them with turn signals and/or flashers on? thanks

Here's the unlock and lock sequence ... you should be able to see how the turn signal will show... I wasn't willing to try putting in in reverse with the parking brake on

Love the smoked lenses, don't care for the flag motif at all - has anybody seen a smoked lens version of the regular F60 taillights available, and if so... where?

I read a thread somewhere else that driving in America with these wasn’t a good idea. They do look great.

Hopefully the brake lights are not amber and illegal. But, I don’t see the inner part that lights up in Europe light up on his. I’m assuming that the red part is just getting brighter when the brake is applied. I wish we had video of the actual different lighting steps so we can see what happens and that there isn’t the issue with the turn signal and brake being used at the same time. But, as long as it all works there shouldn’t be any reason to not be able to use these in the US since all new 2021 CTM will have Union Jack tail lights starting in March 2020.

I was actually talking about sporting their flag in the US. Just what I read elsewhere.

They do look great but they are aftermarket.
Maybe it’s a better idea to wait for the official ones. Does anybody knows how much the current ones cost as a spare part?

It would be no different than driving in another country waving the US flag....

You missed the point of my comment but the end result could be the same. Its the reason i generally leave my British flagged MINI at home when i drive into the USA. Too many morons....

I'd imagine they'd be around the same cost as the F55:

The current F60 tail lights are cheaper though:

Mini will likely release a retrofit kit for the Euro market as well and it's usually pretty cheap, I plan on going that route so I get amber turn signals out of it as well.

These say they are ABS rather than the PC-ABS current MINI lights that are tougher and made with a UV protective coating. If you park in the sunlight these will likely cloud up and stress crack lots quicker than original equipment lights. I'm really interested but gonna see what MINI offers or other more reputable domestic suppliers like ECS Tuning, MINIMania, Craven Speed and others.
