Using remote to control Top

We just got a new to us 2019 Cooper convertible to replace the totaled 2019 Countryman. Loving the new Mini so far.

One thing we can't figure out is using the remote to control the top. We can open the sunroof with the remote, but then the top will not lower following the instructions. It appears to try the sunroof mode again.
And raising the top does not happen with the remote either. Nor can we use the key in the remote to raise the top as the lock is blocked with a plastic cover on the handle.

Any suggestions?

The remote does not run the top up, only down. Press and hold once for the sun roof 'till it's down and release then press and hold again for the top. One silly thing that actually works is to hold the key to your jaw, mouth slightly open then press the button. Works from a distance.

I did a little more digging. According to the manual, the remote does raise the top. But my Mini does not have Comfort Access.
