Headlight Level Control - Looking for Info

Hello all,

I recently purchased this Euro spec headlight switch for my F54 with the intent of using it simply to be able to use the rear fog lights in the US. However, the switch I purchased also has this manual headlight level control dial next to the dash light dimmer.

I'm looking for information on this feature, and potentially if it will need coding to work like the rear fog lights do. My F54 is a 2018 with the LED headlights, they dip every time I unlock the car, and I do have level sensors on the suspension. I'm hoping this manual control dial works in conjunction with the existing auto leveling but simply gives you an option for manual angle adjustment. If not, or if it wont work with my car at all, I'm not too faffed about it since I'm not really out anything.

Yes, I know this is the F55/56 section, but generally this section gets more visibility and it should still apply to the F55/56.

I am under the belief that the manual adjustment is an option instead of auto leveling - one or the other, not both. I would believe that without the coding, that switch then is inactive.

You’ve got the wrong switch. You need the one for cars that have auto-leveling.

I was aware there's a switch that doesn't have the manual control for the leveling. I bought this one because I figured maybe I could also have the option to manually control it.

I'm fine with the dial not doing anything and just looking pretty, since I only paid like $40 for this switch. But are you saying this switch cannot be installed and programmed for the rear fog lights to work still? As in, do I have to get the one that doesn't have the roller dial at all for the headlight aiming?

It looks to me like either way they still have the same 3 pin connector, and I would imagine to have the car decide it no longer has auto leveling it would need VO coded, it won't just decide that on its own. So I'm apt to agree with njaremka here.

Guess we'll find out. Can't see why it wouldn't be able to go with US headlights, the only difference between this switch and, for example, the one you guys sell on your site with the rear fogs, is the manual level control dial as far as I can tell.

I won't be trying to make the manual level control work, as I'm sure that requires VO coding, and on top of that, no one else has ever done that coding before. There's not much that scares me, but I will never ever be touching ESys again. I still have no idea if my 2TB programming actually worked correctly and there was at least some info on that coding out there. Now I don't remember everything I changed to try to use ProTool to go back and do it over again.
