I had my hood open investigating a cold start issue I was having with my 2016 MCS. When I was done, I closed the hood normally. Went to open it again later in the day to check something else and the hood won't release now on the driver's side. The first pull will release both latches, but the driver side not fully. Second pull will only release passenger side. Driver side won't close fully either. I'm nowhere near a Mini dealer. Tried for about 4 hours myself to release the hood. Tried penetration oil on the latches. I even took it to my local mechanic and he tried some things to get it to release but wasn't successful either. Has anyone encountered this and have a fix? Most of my searches have just turned up the pull lever twice "fix" to open the hood for those that are unaware it needs that. Or they are for older Mini models and have a different latch design. It's really pissing me off. I'm due for multiple services and being held up on completing them because of this stupid latch design.

 

Have someone push down in the hood over the latch area, while you pull the lever.
