New guy with a new to me F56

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I picked up a certified 2017 Cooper S in Melting Silver Metallic a couple of weeks ago. The car is such a blast to drive. I owned a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Turbo before the Mini, which ironically I had nothing buy problems with. I have tons planned as far as modifications go (mostly cosmetic), so I can't wait to share those with you all when I get those done. This looks like a good place with plenty of user support.

Thanks everyone. I just got the windows tinted yesterday and replaced the OEM fogs with some LED Fogs/Halo DRLs. I think they turned out pretty good. I'll post some pictures as soon as I take some. The weather has been pretty stormy here in the PNW the last few days so I haven't really felt like spending a whole lot of time outside.

Looks great. What issues did you have with the Accord?

Thanks, there were quite a few issues with the Accord.
  • Transmission: was bad out of the gate and Honda ended up replacing it. It took me a year of going back and forth to the dealer to get that done.
  • Suspension: The left strut started creaking. Replaced it once, the problem returned again. Had it replaced twice, but still the issue kept popping up.
  • The car once stopped on me in the middle of the freeway. The collision mitigation kicked in for some reason (no cars were in front, luckily no one was close behind).
  • Oh, and all of this with less than 10k miles on the ODO. Even though all the work was under warranty, I just had spent so much time at the dealership and just decided to cut my ties with it and move on.

Congrats and welcome. Could you share what fogs you went with? I’d love some matching halo style dogs for my clubman

Congrats on your car. I'll tell ya, once you own your first Mini, you can't imagine life w/o one in your garage going forward. Fun, practical, economical, and unique. Enjoy your ride!

Thanks everyone.

Finally got some pictures. Sorry about the bad quality, did the best I could with my phone. I bought the set on Amazon from a company called iJDMtoy (I think they're based in Los Angeles). It has the LED DRL halos which is the bigger circular shape, the parking lights which are the smaller circular shape, and of course the fog lights. Installation was simple plug and play. Now I have to figure something out for the headlights.

I got LED DRLs from iJDMtoy. They work pretty well except for when I switch from DRL to headlights, the DRL flicker for about 10 seconds. It's weird because that doesn't happen when I turn off the car so it must be some issue from switching lights. But they have a nice deep blue, which is maybe what you have on your DRLs too?

Maybe the LED DRL bulbs you have might not have built in resistors. I bought a pair of LED headlights from LASFIT which supposedly were supposed to be no error, but when I installed them the dashboard lit up. Also, when I would turn the lights on initially they would flicker like a strobe light. I ended up returning those. How long have you had your bulbs for? I'm curious about the longevity of iJDMtoy's products.

My DRLs aren't very blue in person, actually. They're more of a bright white.

I only installed them a month ago or so. And it's not a longevity issue since I noticed it when I first installed them.
It's weird that it only flickers when I'm switching from DRL to headlights. I contacted iJDMtoy and they made the same recommendation of getting a resistor.

Does MINI have stock LED DRLs? Is there a setting that can be changed? I think that's possible with headlights, but I'm not sure if DRLs are the same.
