I just stumbled upon MINI of NYC having several 2 door hardtops (F56's) in a special ordered color.
What is that? Metallic pink?
Does anyone know how this works? Is there a list of specific special order colors? Or is it like Sherwin Williams, and you can truly pick any color under the rainbow you want? "Please match this tie."

That is the Coral Edition. It’s a limited production.
If the Sidewalk edition's Deep Laguna was available on my JCW I would have gotten that over my Rebel Green... I'm a green fanatic, but Deep Laguna is a great color.
Love the Ice Blue / Orange! We tried to order one of these back when they were just announced to replace our Oxygen Blue / Orange R56, but the dealer said they couldn't get us a manual. Wish they could have figured it out.
In Germany MINI did a special Delany edition, It is basically an insult to Steve MacQueen, who would have taken for sure a GP3 for the same price. For around 3000 he would have done a retrim with parts & foil.
Regarding colors, one thing that really disappointed me was that colors were "locked" by trim levels. If you buy a base level MINI, you only get to pick from like 4 colors. If you move up to signature, you get maybe another 5, and on top of that, there are even ones that are locked behind Iconic trims. (Or at least this was how it was in 2019 when I was buying.) And that's all in addition to the actual fee for the color!

Yeah, that's annoying.
It's also annoying that you have to buy the signature trim to get a contrasting roof... which forces you into getting other options, like moonroof, too, just so you can get something that's basically synonymous with MINIs. Dumb.
I did accidentally figure out that you can delete the moonroof (which isn't mentioned anywhere on MINI's site, as far as I know), which I would absolutely do if I got a hardtop. They even give you some money back when you delete it.
I wonder if there's anything else I can delete/modify that I don't know about?
Interesting video. I think I understand the paint/interior differences for the cars I'm considering, and I've already saved a bunch of pictures of different color combos myself (incl. your JCW) but I'm going to check for similar videos, just in case. Nice to have it all in one spot when deciding.

I got $650 discount for doing the sunroof delete, but it seemed that was about all that was available for credit. I also deleted the DDC suspension, but there was no credit for that. Further, with my Chesterfield Malt Brown interior, they forced the MINI Yours steering wheel instead of the JCW, because the red stitching on the wheel clashes with the white piping on the seats! But then they still left the red stitching on the shift boot!

Oh, yeah, love your car. Really tempting me to pull the trigger on one. If so, I'm planning to do the same with the sunroof and DDC deletes. No question there. Probably go Rebel Green, too (I prefer non-metallics), but go with a red or white roof and one of the JCW seat options.
One thing I noticed about your car vs the online configurator was the headlight rings: Online, when you select the black trim, it blacks out the grill and taillight rings, but not the headlight rings. I figured that was a glitch, but your car confirms it, of course.
Oh, one question you may or may not know the answer to. The wheels you got, are they tied to the premium package? The configurator lets you add them for no cost, but elsewhere on a brochure it says you have to get the premium package. I'm leaning toward the latter because it kinda indicates that on the configurator, too, by listing them with the premium package, but for whatever reason, they let you add them at no cost... probably another glitch/error.

Thanks for the nice words, I'm really loving the car so far, although I still have only about 200 miles on it! Lots of customizations to set up electronically too, even after you choose your colors and trims, there's all the lighting and gadget settings!
Yea, i tried to get different wheels (even lesser non-JCW ones), but the ones I have are included in the JCW package (?), and the only other ones I think were the cross spoke for a large ($1800?) up-charge. But now that you are asking, I'm not really sure if the wheels are tied to the JCW and/or the signature or Iconic trim. Of course they don't have a lot of factory OEM options for the JCW brakes, so you're kinda stuck with those three available options. I think I could have also gotten these silver ones, but there was no deduction for them, so I decided to stick with the black and machined ones...

Yeah, I really like the ones you have vs the ones in the picture, so I'd want to spec them. I'm just not sure if I have to get the premium package, like you did, or if I can get them without opting for the premium package. There's conflicting info on the configurator vs. the brochure. I'm undecided about the black trim, too. Lots of decisions, like you said! We kept our last MINI for 10 years and loved that we literally never saw another one like it, so we'll want to get the spec nailed down on this one, too.
I had an adventure ordering my Melting Silver over Coral Red Metallic 2020 Clubman last year. The USA configurator would not allow the color combo I wanted. But I could build it the way I wished on the German MINI configurator. I called MINI USA. Got a hard "no" to my request to unlock the build colors I wanted. Called my dealer. He got it done and I love the color. It's sort of salmon with a hint of pink but when the light hits it just right, well, whatever it is, it sure is pretty and garners many admiring comments.
If you come up with something you have to have, often there is a pathway. Thus my mantra: "No is just the start of a conversation."

This is why I was, temporarily, excited when this dealer described what was simply a special edition paint color, as a special order color. Special order? I'm special. Was this a way to unlock more paint colors, I thought.
Its not just MINI. I look at other manufacturers' offerings too, and they like have 8 shades of gray, and only 2 non-gray colors. Boring!
It's definitely not just MINI. When my wife was buying a Mazda3, she also had the debate if it was worth buying extra features just to unlock more colors. I guess that's why we live in such a dull world...

I too was hoping for this on my new JCW. I really really wanted Ice Blue, but my dealer said it was a no go, even when asked to press further. The Enigmatic Black I went with is pretty, but I do prefer lighter, brighter colors than the current options allow.
Damn I love that color- just needs a touch more dark green, but I can deal. Not thrilled with the black roof (here in Arizona) or the black wheels, but at least the latter is easily changeable. Either way so glad to see they're pushing Deep Laguna over to other MINI chassis, even if they are special editions.
Btw my MA told me there's a good chance that they'll add Deep Laguna into the standard offerings at some point in the future... Fingers crossed on that-

Well, funny enough, these started coming back on 3-year leases, so we just found one with low miles and a manual in Virginia and are having it shipped to Florida!
Probably could have found another 2018 MCS for cheaper, but we really wanted this special edition in particular and who knows how many manuals are actually available (not a bunch).
Already ordering a JCW Tuning Kit and planning for MOTD and MTTS!
