JCW Tuning Kit Install?

Picked up a 2015 F56 6 speed manual and looking to enhance with sound and mild performance.

I understand there are lots of tuning options but I’m looking for simple plug and play stuff and have no desire to use a tuner and computer. The JCW kit can be purchased now for under $1k plus install.

My question is can the average joe with some wrenching skills easily install the exhaust and the electrics to operate the exhaust flap or does it require more technical expertise? Does the kit come with install instructions?

I understand the dealer will need to flash the ecu but I’m trying to save money wherever I can. Price trough Mini is $947 for kit or $1700 for kit plus the install.

Id like to install myself and save the money if possible.

Thoughts?

I just installed the JCW Pro exhaust. It does not come with instructions. There is a post on the forum linking the instructions. The Exhaust is the easy part. running the wiring from the back of the car to the front is a pain. You have to take a lot of the interior apart. Their was a post of another MINI dealer doing the exhaust and install for around $1250.
The JCW Pro exhaust is quieter than the Stock JCW exhaust when the valve is closed. It's much louder with it open. Also, there is now a drone at certain engine speeds that the stock exhaust doesn't have.

Thanks N0B0DY.
Sounds like more work than what I feel comfortable with.

Plus you still have to have the dealer install the tune that comes with it

Once the dealer installs the new tune it'll be registered as an approved upgrade and you'll get the official certificate which will prove the upgrade when you sell the car and will be worth more

Thanks for the replies.

I spoke with the dealer this morning and decided, “today’s my birthday, what the hell go for it.” They ordered the kit and it’s scheduled for install this coming Wednesday.

Looked at the install threads/pics posted on the site and decided I didn’t need the aggravation and will suck it up and pay the dealer since it has to go there anyway for the ecu flash.

Happy birthday Blk-Betty!
Since it seems like this thread is resolved, I won't feel bad trying to hijack it. Since this discussion is about the JCW Pro Exhaust/Tuning Kit, I wanted to ask a few questions since I am considering this option:

1) Based on the design of the exhaust, it looks like if you have the flap closed, all of the exhaust goes through just one side of it. Would this actually make the exhaust less effective if it's in the closed flap mode?

2) How loud is it really? I haven't heard it in person (I'm sure I could schedule something at the dealership if I imply I'm looking to buy) just online videos. But my concern is if I'll need the flap open at all times, it might be a bit obnoxious in some settings.

3) So when the flap is open, how much better is it than just straight pipes? It looks like the vast majority of exhaust will go through the pipe that bypasses the muffler.

4) And any other general opinions and thoughts on the JCW Pro Exhaust/Tune kit?
(And for the record, I know that there are more aggressive exhausts and tunes available, but the fact that it doesn't void my warranty and I'm assured that I'll have no CELs is a big selling point.)

Picked up my Mini this morning after install of the JCW tuning kit. Drove straight from the shop to work in an urban environment so didn't have time to experiment.....with that said I really couldn't tell if there was any significant increase in exhaust note over stock system with the flap closed. Definitely louder with the flap open not as loud as I expected. In all honestly, from the audio clips posted on line I assumed the sound with the flap closed would have been what it actually is when opened and I thought the open flap would have been much louder.

I have mixed feelings....I was hoping it would be louder and more racier sounding but in reality it's probably best the way it is since I can close the flap and not bothered by exhaust noise when I'm just commuting about in stealth mode.

If "felt" more responsive from an acceleration point but I never had the opportunity to really open it up and rev past 5K on my commute to work. Will do some more testing on the way home once I get to some back roads in a more rural setting.

The new JCW Werks badge on the lifegate looks cool!

You should find with the flap open it's slightly louder than when closed in mid and eco mode, when in sports mode it gets even louder
I find in eco and mid mode there are very few "soft" pops but in sports around 4k it really does get louder with them after the exhaust has warmed up (10 mins driving)

Did you get it flashed at the dealer to the JVW mapping?

Should definitely notice the torque increase in the lower RPM's.
