Steering wheel

Are the steering wheels from an auto and manual both compatible?
I know the auto has cut outs on the back for the paddles but will it work on a manual car (no the paddles aren't there just the cut outs)

Thanks

phew - just ordered it off ebay so glad it will fit

Do you know if the plastic covers on the back of my old wheel will fit over the cut outs on the back of the auto wheel?
Got it cheap but would like to make it look as it should

You mean just the covers for the cut outs or the entire back?

The front covers are the same, the rear has the cutout for the paddles, but overall the same. You can see below what it looks like without the trim

We have the CF wheels here and they are really nice.

I was hoping the 2 covers on the back of my old wheel will fit over the cut outs on the back of the wheel.

The front is bare like in your photo so i'll swap over the controls and trim off my old wheel (standard Cooper S wheel to swap with JCW auto wheel)

That's a great looking wheel
So the 2 plastic parts on the back just pop off and will fit onto an auto paddle wheel to cover the slots?

Great, i wasn't sure if the plastic covers on the back would come off to swap over
Here are a couple of pics of the wheel i've just bought - bare bones from an auto paddle so will swap my controls and lower trim from my old wheel and can now swap the back covers to cover the flappy paddle holes

Yep, take the paddle cover off the one and swap it over. Let me know if you have any problems. I am here to help even if you did not buy the wheel from us.

Wheel turned up today so it'll be something to do this weekend.
Looks like i need to swap the wiring from old to nes as the auto wiring has an extra plug (unless i can use this wiring and just ignore the extra plug?)
I can remove the back cover off the wheel (large round cover) but can't see how the 2 other covers come off (the ones the paddle screw onto with the cut outs?) - they look separate though?

swap it over on the wires to be safe,

Those can covers that hold the to the back are bonded on there, i would just leave them. They looked like they came off compared to the EI CF wheel

Yep, the back wont be seen when the wheel is fitted i guess
Probably cost too much in postage to UK but how much could you supply the bottom part of the wheel for with the JCW name tag as my old wheel just has the plain V shape? - item 3 in pic

I just got done using chat on ECS for how much "alteration" would need be done. They couldn't help me out ,so now I see this thread and want to order for my automatic with paddles, cruise control, radio, and phone controls. You're saying I shouldn't have any issues? Thanks in advance!

Hello,

You can always reach out to me for the more technical issues, especially modding to work. As you can see we talked about this above.

Steering wheel installed.
I guess I won't have the paddles option anymore. The wheel actually comes with the large round plastic back, so that part doesn't need to be swapped over. That screw in what looks like a back arm panel (directly under the paddle) is for the front face plate. The arm panel where the paddles are attached isn't a panel at all. It's a rubbery section which is molded and bonded around the steering wheel arm, front to back, all one solid piece. There are no holes for the paddle wire to pass through, and no mounting points to attach the paddles. Unless someone can drill holes and router small rectangles into the back of the rubber pads, or cut up and glue on their $730 brand new steering wheel, it's probably not modification that's worth it. There's no way the finish is going to be as good as how it was made. I don't use the paddles, only the manual side of the stick, so it kind of hurts taking away the looks and functionality, even thought I don't use it. But overall the wheel is nice, about a billion times better than the stock wheel with grey stitching. Also, I didn't swap the oem wiring harness into the new wheel. The paddles use one extra wire and a ground. (It's the brown ground in the center of the metal frame.) The new wheel is wired for no paddles.

They have the JCW wheel with alcantara but it doesn't have any carbon fiber on it.
