F55/F56 New 7-step DCT transmission fluid change
New 7-step DCT transmission fluid change
Hey,
I'm planning to do a DIY transmission fluid change ASAP. But I don't know where the drain plug and fill plug is. It is a little different than the old aisins.
On the old Aisin I could see the fill plug right next to the airbox. Now where the drain plug used to be, I can see some kinda plastic with red thingy.
I have the new fluid which is OEM BMW DCTF-2 75W80 and the capacity is 4.22 qts.
Anybody know something about this new gearbox? Where the drain plug is and where to fill?
Thanks in advance

I have to ask, why are you doing a fluid change on the transmission already?? Also, not sure there's any info out there yet on proper maintenance/repair procedures on the DCT. I'm sure MINI dealers have it, but don't think it's made its way to the internet yet. It's not even in newtis yet.
The reason why I’m changing it already is that the vehicle has over 45000 miles.
I want to know how does the oil around wet clutches looks like after that mileage.
I found it on newtis, didnt know that page even existed, but I found it. At least on an European model of 03/18 f55/f56.
Simple steps, drain and fill. Hopefully.

There you go, no intervals stated, transmission oil temperature must be between 20 °C and maximum 40 °C!
In case of exceeding the oil change by more than 3000 km, the double clutch must also be renewed! - so there must be some kind of interval, but its not stated anywhere, there is a wear sensor though.
You can use OEM BMW DCTF-2, or Ravenol MTF-2 SAE 75W80 (europe), mechanic also said you can use MOTUL DCTF, CASTROL ATF Multivehicle.
I got the info from local MINI/BMW specialist.
About the fluids, BMW and Getrag (Magna) is stating that the mechatronic fluid is fill for life, so PROBABLY no need to be changed, not sure, no idea how and I would not do it without any knowledge.
Then the is the fluid for the two wet clutches, which has around 4 litres (4.2 qts) of fluid and has a fill and drain plug.
No idea if the transmission has any external filter to change, can't find it anywhere.
Generally there is a little of info about DCTs, this was made for Renault and now BMW and MINI is using it. It has also nothing to do with Ford Powershift dcts, it is just simmiliar design.

Is this filled like a manual transmission or an automatic transmission, or two steps? For manual there is just a fill plug and a drain plug, for automatic there is a an overflow leveling tube and usually an oil filter, where the engine runs at a set temperature out the overflow tube.
