MCS Auto Trans. Fluid Check/Fill (Aisin 6 Speed auto)
WE've got an '05 MCS with the Aisin 6 speed transmission and it's behaving like crap. I suspect the RH axle shaft seal is leaking but cannot really verify at this point in time because there's an oil leak in the mix too and it's become quite clear that I have no idea how to verify fluid level, blah blah blah.
Anyway I followed the Bentley guide for a fluid level check which states to remove the "inspection plug" (looks like a drain plug) on the bottom of the transmission pan which should then only overflow when the transmission is full.
Now the issue is that plug just acted like a drain plug for me, perhaps the "overflow tube" is missing, I dunno. This transmission has never been touched in it's life (we're the original owners). I put the plug back in and filled the transmission with the fluid I lost when I had that plug out.
So with all this said the real question is whether the Bentley Book is correct (yes I was reading the correct section, not the CVT section)?
On a side note.... "Lifetime Lubrication" my ***! That fluid looked like 2500 mile old engine oil, not sweet red ATF. I foresee doing fluid changes in the future as I always planned on.
If you've done this job please let me know what you've done. Thanks.

It turns out that losing nearly a quart when pulling the plug while cold and off is normal, this just isn't stated in the Bentley Book. When I followed the procedure later on I was able to give it a nice full fill of ATF and verified that I most likely not have a leak judging the lack of a difference between the amount of fluid removed from the transmission verses the amount of fluid put back into the transmission.
Ignore the rest of this thread, the procedure in the book is correct and my transmission has all the parts it's supposed to have.

It's on top of the trans. If you look down at your trans, near the shift linkage there should be a Torx- type plug. It's a T55. I am basing this off my 05 Cooper S, but I don't think the casing has changed much, or at all in that time. Good luck.
