Wastegate valve? Westgate Valve?

My 2019 base F55 threw a “drivetrain malfunction” notification two days ago.
I found out that my wife tried to be nice and filled my car up for me and failed to go with the premium. The malfunction notification went away but I added some octane boost anyway and kept my service appt at the dealer.
I figured it was the gas but since I am under warranty (about to turn 10K) I had the dealer run the diagnostic anyway and they found a faulty westgate valve.
I did a little bit of searching and found that the service advisor probably should have called it a wastegate valve. Is that right?
But regardless of the name of that actual part, the real line of questioning is, how does this happen on a new vehicle? Is it a big problem? Is there something I did to create this problem? And is a part like this going bad at 9800 miles potentially a sign of things to come?

One last piece of info that may be helpful that I can think of: Mini did the first oil change at about 5800 miles when I had it in to get the tires checked.

Thanks for your help.

Probably just a defective part. One tankful of non premium gas will probably only result in $1.50 extra money in your pocket. The non S MINI F55 will run ok on regular gas, you'll just get a bit more performance with premium.
