F55/F56 shift knob removal ???
shift **** removal ???
Hi all, I'm trying to install Way Motors F56 short shifter in my 2014 Cooper. The instructions they referred me to have Step 3 = pull shift **** straight up to remove. NFW will that **** move, much less come off, so I am stuck having barely begun. Any suggestions for removing shift **** are greatly appreciated. With your help, I'll try again tomorrow...thanks...jim
In my 2019 6mt, you just pull like hell and it finally pops off. Mine takes the shift boot and everything off with it.
My best advice is if you punch through the sunroof after the **** finally released, you’ve gone too far...but not by much.

Pull up on the trim ring at the base of the shifter (3 clips hold it in place). If you have the driving mode selector switch there (green, mid, sport), unplug the connector. With the car in neutral, pull up really hard to remove the ****. Be careful, I punched myself in the nose when mine popped off.

Anyone have a solution on securing it back on? After I removed mine to add the Cravenspeed short shifter and pro clip, the **** went back on without an issue but now a small tug up and it pops right off. It happened to me twice already while driving, after only three short trips.

Not sure how the short shifter works, but I bought a Cravenspeed 6-speed ****. I got lucky with the stock **** since mine was not nearly as difficult to pull off as I feared it would be. But when I put the Cravenspeed **** on, at first it was pulling up - not completely popping off - but I knew it wasn't right. Emailed Cravenspeed and they told me that I must not have pushed their adapter collar down far enough on the shift lever. Sure enough, that was the problem. **** is secure now.
