Removing sport/green mode switch on 2016 Cooper hardtop?

My wife is replacing her 2016 Cooper four door hardtop with a Countryman and I need to get it cleaned up and ready for sale.

Something sticky was spilled in the center console area and the sport/green drive mode selector is sticking. How could I remove this part without breaking it so that I can clean it up and hopefully fix the problem?

Thanks

That was super helpful, this is the section on replacement and my only remaining question is how the bezel clips are released... I'm guessing I can use a plastic pry tool to carefully push them in from under the ring, hopefully I can do this without breaking the clips;
