I have 2015 S w/ the JCW tune (ECU flash and the exhaust). Love the car and has been pretty much trouble free. Only issue was a kinked AC drain pipe and a musty smell, which was addressed in a TSB by Mini. Otherwise the car has been flawless mechanically.. You can check reliability online and will find the Mini S to be better than average.

I would highly recommend the JCW tune/Exhaust when you purchase. I will be doing that myself when we order a 2020. You can now order it w/ the car which will save you a bunch of money doing it that way rather than a dealer installed option.

I was skeptical when I read the spec's on the JCW tune/exhaust. Seemed like minimal gains for a lot of money. Trust me, you will see a big improvement in overall performance of the car w/ that option added and have the benefit of full factory coverage (something you will not get w/ a piggyback after market tuner).

Aftermarket is cheaper and they do perform well, but you'll have to remove it each time you take the car in for service, and I've heard that even then , when dealer puts the car on their computer, there will be a tell-tale trace that something was added. Not a big deal if you don't have an engine transmission or drive-train issue, but if you do, Mini can deny coverage. So use you best judgement w/ this.

I have owned a 2015 C7 Corvette and have a 2017 M240i w/ a Dinan tune now (along w/ the 2015 MCS), and if I had to choose one car as my only car, it would be the Mini Cooper S. Pure fun to drive, great MPG and very peppy performance (and can haul a 55 inch OLED flat screen TV in the box).

Not sure there is a best time to buy when ordering a car. If buying off the lot, EOY models or end of sales quarters, but unnlikely you'll find the car you want..

[QUOTE=mini907;4451020...is there a best time of year to buy one ?
thanks[/QUOTE]

Experienced car sales people like to say, "The best time to buy is today!"

The truth in that statement is, a customer who is truly prepared to sign a deal 'today' usually improves his/her bargaining position.

As a general rule, last day of the month, last day of the fiscal quarter and last day of the calendar year are usually when dealers are most aggressive in dealing.

If you check out the sticky on The Art of the Deal in this 3rd Gen F55/F56 section there are a lot of ideas. A MINI MA is claiming that, right now, he is seeing deep discounts offered because sales are very slow.

I'd start a bit back of invoice, then deduct any current MINI USA advertised offers from there. If you're ready to buy, give the dealer an opportunity to sell you a car -- start low, grind hard, and motor!!

If you live in a region with more than one dealer, the current wisdom is to contact several dealers, tell each what you want and honestly tell them you are giving all the local dealers the opportunity and the one with the most compelling offer will get your business.

These 3rd gen cars are amazing. Best of BMW and MINI morphed into humming little machines. Not the nuts and bolts MINIs of previous generations -- much more refined which is not to the liking of all MINI purists. But I eschewed many high line choices and went for MINI on the day I thought I was looking for a new BMW. My Clubman S All4 has been trouble-free. So, there you are.

Best of luck.

I have owned an 11S. 11JCW and 13 JCW coupe. I now have a 15S with the JCW body and suspension. This car is vastly superior. More comfortable, better sound, handles great. I am pleased.

Congrats on starting the negotiations.
In October I hit a deer with my beloved 06 Honda Element. That prompted the purchase of a Subaru Outback.
Then I sold our 2013 Nissan Altima to pay for my 2019 F55 Oxford Edition (a justa with some bells and whistles).
We love the Mini. 7500 miles in, Subaru is an amazing car and perfect for the family.
700 miles in to the Mini, we appreciate the Subaru and have deep affection and love for the Mini. It’s the one that makes us happy
So, that’s no help in the reliability conversation, but it sure is fun to drive.

Happy negotiating!
