After googling, searching all the forums and unsuccessful software update tries, I will beg for help to update my Mini's software.

I'm getting either this
update on usb device not suitable for this vehicle
or
USB Device not found with software update

 

Take it to a dealer?

 

If it's an important update the dealer will do it.

 

make sure the usb stick is formatted to fat32...

 

I will take it to the dealer today.

I tried all FAT and NTFS formats but no luck

 

Dealer checked my MINI's software version and said its up to date!

I'm told that it is not possible to skip songs via multi function steering wheel, only dash can do that.

 

If I'm streaming iTunes via Bluetooth I can skip forward and backward with the steering wheel controls, but if I have it on the USB I have to use the iDrive controller to skip songs. Also, if it's on the USB I get album art, but not with Bluetooth. Doesn't make much sense.

 

I get that sometimes. I fix the USB issue by going into the music search option on the screen (not phone) and then selecting all at the bottom. Once it begins playing all music I am able to change songs via the steering wheel controls.

 

I'm told that Spotify can only work with Dash & iDrive button, you can skip songs via multi function in Pandora too. Each application has it's own way, I never used iTunes so I don't know

USB Connection send images where Bluetooth doesn't , I guess the reason is battery life or Bluetooth Protocol doesn't allow you to do or BMW likes to charge us for Navigation!

 

Software updates for the car probably aren't gonna fix little stuff like this. I never had either of my Mini's car software updated by the dealer. Maybe the R56/58 cars can't get them? I don't remember them being brought up on the R56 forums.

 

My opinion is that this option was created mainly for updating phone connectivity on the head unit. I'm not sure they would trust a major update to the customer.

 

Dealer told the software is up to date when they checked for a day.
