Reading Texts with Mini Connected

Has anyone had success getting their F56 to read texts over the speaker? I want to be able to listen to the radio, then when I get the text, the radio pauses, reads the text, then asks if I want to reply. My Samsung S6 works fine in my other cars. I have MiniConnected, but NOT enhanced bluetooth (I am told by my service tech that my problem is I do not have EB). I tried a couple apps on Google Play, and can get close, but it doesn't quite work. The phone function works fine. Listening to radio, phone rings, radio pauses, I can answer and hang up, then radio continues. Apps like Drive mode work , but only if connected for BT audio, and I cannot listen to the radio there. Any help to get Enhanced BT or some type of magic app would be appreciated.

Thanks

F54 here, but I'm sure it's the same. When I get a text while the phone is connected via BT, a little envelope shows up on the status bar at the top of the center display. To get it to read the text, I have to go into Office to view the text, and then select the little button that tells it to read it. It does not do it automatically like you describe, but it does read it over the speakers.

I don't have that little envelope, and why I am trying to find a workaround. My software version is 110.005.010. It has something to do with the miniconnected system around my build date, 2/15. I really could not get a good answer from my Mini service tech.... except, it won't work, and there is nothing I can buy to fix it. Seems crazy.

I did not want to hear that.....I am considering a 17 countryman for my wife, and I do not want that same issue. I thought it was a 2015 issue,,, Something as small as this, will make me reconsider. What audio option do you have on the clubman? and what phone?

dang!

Yikes, you have the the better system than I was considering. I guess I need to do some testing first....

Thanks for the reply. Maybe someone will see this and tell us the fix....or what we are doing wrong...

Don't know why you don't have office. Seems there's some things the Mini will only do with an iPhone. Mine worked as described in post #2 when I had my iPhone 6, but for some reason I can't get it to work with my iPhone 7+. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it though. I'm building the car to drive, not be an extension of my phone. Sure as heck wouldn't be a deal breaker cause it wouldn't talk to me. But, then again, I'm old. Different priorities I reckon.

I got it to work. Adjusted settings on the phone and changed notifications to show while screen is locked. That seemed to help.

In the US, enhanced bluetooth is included with Media Package on MY2014/2015/2016 models, always been standard on the F57/F54 and standard across the board on MY2017+

For people with enhanced bluetooth having issues getting iPhones to show text notifications:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Go to Bluetooth and tap the blue "i" next to your MINI on the list
- Make sure Show Notifications is ON
- Should work after a bit

Limitations:
- It will only show new texts that have come in since it's paired.
- It will NOT read you messages automatically, nor will it give any other notification you have a message other than that little envelope icon
- You can have the car read the message to you, but you have to go into PHONE/OFFICE --> MESSAGES --> Open message --> Click PLAY on sidebar.

Alternatively, you can activate Siri/Google/S Voice/etc. via the steering wheel controls (press and hold voice command button for 3 seconds) and ask your phone to read the message when you see you have a new message. Not only is this easier, but your phone will let you dictate a reply.

Thanks siriuszero! That confirms my original post on the Enhanced bluetooth, and makes me feel better about the Countryman. Heading to Mini of MtLaurel this week....

I have tried an app called Audio BT. It gets close, and sometimes works. I just do not think it is a robust app. Do you (or does anyone) know of a good app?

I bought my 2015 there. Great place to have a cup of coffee and wait for an oil change! You are probably the reason Victoria did not call me back on Saturday!

If you're that good with tech and, like me, you've turned your iPhone's Siri When Locked function off, then you'll have to remember to turn that function back on when you get your first new car ever that has steering wheel controls.
