Fish comes with the Excitement Package, standard on all US MINIs 2014-2016, but you also need Visual Boost. Nav isn't required.

It's under VEHICLE INFO --> MINIMALISM. Flick the car into GREEN and you'll see the fish bowl as an option on the side in MINIMALISM.

Found the little bugger! Thanks. I'll probably never look at him again, but at least I know where he is.

Green/eco mode makes more sense on the automatics, because of the coasting function. But the manual does not get that. So unless you're running the A/C (and maybe not even then), there is no point. You will just drive yourself insane with the throttle response and find that it is no more/less efficient than mid mode.

Plus, I feel like I'm going to stall out taking off from a stop in green mode.

2014 'Justa' drive modes.

I was thinking of starting a new thread but I'll try here first.

Does anyone understand the drive modes? (What the differences are?)

1) Straight "D" mode (called "mid?)

2) Green mode - ring around the shifter to the right. Umm, oh, - don't bother.

3) Sport mode - ring around shifter to the left.

4) M/S mode - using "S"

5) M/S mode - using "M"

In "D" mode at moderate speed - 35/40mph, my '14 luggs if I want to speed up just a bit.

In "M" mode I have a bit of control, but somehow without a clutch, it gets confusing when to downshift, although the transmission keeps itself safe. And I find myself hesitating - foot slightly off the gas when "shifting" - old habit

In "S" mode the car - finally - shows some guts - as well as in "SPORT" mode

Is there actually a difference between "SPORT" and "S" modes?

Is it my imagination or not that in "S" mode, going up a twisty hill in "S" mode, additionally invoking "SPORT" mode gives a power increase?

What are YOUR experiences/recommendations for an old Clutch & Stick driver now using this transmission?

Thanking you in advance,

-Oly

i have a 2016 4 door hard top and ordered it with the steptronic automatic ( not with the paddles) .....I have always had standards starting my brand new 1978 Fiesta, then brand new'84 Corolla, '96 neon then '04 MC...

was planning on getting a standard in this car too but i found the clutch's longer throw compared to my '04 hurt my knee on a long test drive...so ordered the auto but then had second thoughts and wondered if i will be missing having a clutch/stick ......nope like this automatic plus my wife can drive it on long trips, ( if i let her)........on the other hand, if ever i need a loaner from the dealer i will ask for a standard to play with......

The Sport and S modes are the same. What that does is it shortens the travel of the gas pedal so if you push it an inch the car accelerates more. And it tightens the steering response so you have more resistance to turning the wheel. The engine has the same power and the turning radius is the same.

Has it changed? In pre 14s, pushing sport button tightened steering and increased engine response. Just putting it into sport via shift in auto transmission didn't change steering.

There are some other differences as well. Sport mode and S mode both allow the RPM go higher. I felt S mode does it even more so than in Sport mode.

The steering wheel tightens in Sport mode.

Green mode was not too bad in a F56S, but lags a lot in F56. I still use Green mode half the time on my F56.

edit:
I believe the Green mode and Mid mode are exactly the same, as TheBigNewt said. It's just a more relaxed of sensitive throttle pedal. Oh, and the glide mode is only in Green mode, which is exactly same as putting your gear in N. However in some situation, you can't put it back to D from N, I think it's when going slow under 5 mph. On a highway or 30 mph+ I had no problem switching between back and fourth.

I hate to differ with you, but your "solution" is that rather than actually change anything, the car attempts to trick the driver into thinking it's acting different;y, sort of like a VW Diesel on a smog-check machine.

I believe that we will find out that the car's computer changes the shift points.

In the situation I cited, above, at around 35 MPH on a very slight upgrade, my Mini actually LUGS, and I can't make it stop LUGGING with regular movements of the gas pedal as you suggest. Just tapping the gear lever to the left for a moment changes the gear ratio so it's easy to increase speed and go back to "Drive".

But thanks for the come-back!
