Does anyone know if the HDD that is used to store music with Boost XL - can the HDD be replaced with another, larger HDD or SSD. 20GB is nice, but a couple TB would be better

Seem to recall another thread recently saying no, but you should do a search. Proprietary drive I think!

Unless you're some kind of software engineer with some time on their hands, the answer is no.

One person has attempted it on another forum (BimmerFile), and I believe he was successful, but it's not something that's anywhere close to something most people could do. A particular type of HD is needed, it is formatted in a non-standard way, and you have to get the iDrive system (of which it is a proprietary OS) to recognize the drive.

Thanks for the info - I had searched most all forums here and couldn't find anything. All of that work is right in my wheelhouse - will let you all know if I take it on!

Here's the thread by TokenMaster (who we have to thank for being able to easily code our MINIs and BMWs as he developed the software to bring ESYS to the common user): http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=787230

Good luck!

Thank you very much! While it looks like it is possible, I'm now concerned about possible warranty issues since iDrive is using this HDD - not sure it's worth the risk at the moment
