So I decided to get some winter tires based on some feedback in a previous thread (thanks for all the great feedback on these forums!). I went with a second set of rims and Pirelli Sottozero 3 tires (great tire by the way). I also decided to get a second set of TPMS sensors, just so I could have two complete sets of tires/rims/sensors and could change them back myself in the spring or whenever the weather warms up for good.
Here's my question: has anyone else done this, and if so, did you have trouble with the sensors not resetting? So far, mine won't reset; they get to 49% and then give a TPM error. The local tire store has been great in dealing with the issue from a customer service perspective (they're trying to order new sensors) but they also didn't know why the car wouldn't recognize the first set of sensors. The new ones should be in soon, but I thought I'd ask here to see if maybe there's something we're missing and the second set of new sensors might not be necessary?
I know that two different frequencies were used in the first and second generation cars. You had to make sure you were ordering the correct sensors for the car to recognize them. Haven't seen the specs on 3rd gen cars, but that could possibly be the problem.
While we're on this subject, can you speak as to the accuracy of the OEM TPM models? I've got an ACCUTIRE digital gauge that reads within a 1/2 lb and I can get the tires to read correctly for front and rear for awhile. But day to day with conditions being the same the tires go from reading correctly to a 1/2 lb or more either way and then back to correct on another day.

Ok this is really beginning to irritate me - I took the car back to the tire place where they put OEM sensors in this time and I'm getting the same TPM error when trying to reset. There has to be something else at work here, two sets of sensors with the same issue? And this time I'm assured they're the OEM part.
I'll be doing some more searching to see if I can pinpoint the problem, but thought I'd mention this one more time to see if anyone's experienced the 'TPM Error' or an 'RDC Error' when resetting the system.

Wondering if they got the right OEM ones. Like ECS mentioned, the TPMS sensors from the 2nd gen MINIs are different than the newer 3rd gen MINIs.

Right, I had that thought too. It's tough because they've been great to work with, I had second and third-guessing their work but obviously they don't know MINI very well. I'm not sure if my first call Monday should be to the dealership or the tire place. Does anybody know if there's an OEM part number I should check to see if they ordered? (I'm sure I can find it. I'll take a quick look for it in the meantime).
Is the tpms stopping at 51% when trying to sync? It happens to me to. The solution is to get on a long road without stops, like a freeway and drive until it syncs. Sometimes it takes a while.

It's inconsistent; sometimes the percentage climbs up to 49% and then errors out, and sometimes it doesn't seem to be syncing at all, but you have me thinking now. Maybe I'll give the long ride a try before calling in again.

Literally had the same thing happen to me today. Stopped at 49%. Tried resetting maybe 15 times.
