Sport Tranny vs. the stock auto

Anyone happen to drive two cars with each transmission? Is there a difference in the in the way the car takes off, the shifts and overall aggressiveness compared to the regular non paddle shift auto?

I realize they are the same basic transmission but wonder if they are mapped differently to shift more aggressively (since the paddle shift version is labeled sport).

Looking for someone with actual wheel time with both cars.

Thanks

Sport trans is a hair sharper than the standard auto. Also, the sport trans gets launch control programming.

Driven both and own one with a Sport Auto. Sport autos have different programming that will shift faster than the standard auto. I can definitely tell the difference - it's almost jerky sometimes, especially from 1st to 2nd, but is brilliant when you get on it.

...and yes, the sport autos get launch control, which can be lots of fun

You talking about the regular auto? Then yes it is jerky between 1st and 2nd, that is the only thing that annoys me about the auto in the car. It seems like it is not ready for you to put the hammer down in Mid mode, in Sport it is a lot better.

I find that with my standard automatic, I move the shift lever over (to the manual mode) from the regular "D" position. I do not use it manually. I let it shift automatically (and it will) when left in that position.

The jerkiness you mentioned is all but eliminated in the mid and sport mode. The shift points seem to be more aggressive and overall the car seems to perform a bit better IMO.

Not sure how this affects mileage, but I've been using it this way for a long time and do not drive the car to squeeze the best mileage I can out of it. Still average 34.8 MPG mostly in town.
