Ryephile, is there some boost level which if exceeded will cause the car to shut down or go into the limp mode or something? What I mean is is there something a tune or this bolt on device can do to screw up the car?

Of course. The aftermarket blows up cars all the time, be it either by incompetence, probing the limits, or a combination of both.

If you're asking for specifics on the B48 and/or this piggyback box, I'm afraid I don't have that information. Theoretically with a t-MAP piggyback, you can bias the signal enough to have the ECU build more boost via the EBC, but there'll be a mathematical limit where the formula crashes, causing a limp-home-ish fail safe. How effective that fail-safe is in reality, along with where exactly the thresholds for the calculation are, is something the vendor [and the customer] has to discover.

As always, buyer beware. If you're more concerned with keeping your warranty squeaky clean, obviously this sort of experimentation isn't your cup of tea. You can, however, look at some of the bigger picture information. BMW will be using this same engine in the 330i, rated for 252 HP and 258 LbFt. It's a fairly safe assumption that based on the current crop of Bimmer engines, that number will likely translate into measured at the wheels on a Dynojet at sea level SAE corrected. (sidebar: it's so the engine will make advertised power at high elevation, typically) As such, adding 24 HP and 22 LbFt to bring the JCW engine to 330i specs is probably about 2 pounds of boost, a rough guesstimate just based on experience. As the cars roll out and people do good comparable datalogging we'll find out for sure. As for pushing harder, we'll have to wait and see. With any luck the B48 is as durable and capable as the VW Gen 3 EA888 are proving to be. They're already making upwards of 400 HP and 400 LbFt with just a tune and exhaust on the Golf R/S3.

New JCW F56 Dyno

Very interested to see who else has BT on their JCW, and which connectors they have connected. Seems to be disagreement on which connectors avoid issues.

Also interested in how many others have put just the JB4on the JCW.

I don't know whether I would put the E85 into the mix too, so interested in how much this contributes to the overall gains seen in the dyne plot.
