I was considering a used 2011 or 2012 but decided to go with new due to some of the repairs out of warranty that seem to be common with the previous gen.
Has anyone negotiated their deal to below invoice? From previous new car buying experiences I was able to get a portion of the "hold back" amount that was a few grand under invoice. My dealer said there is no hold back on these cars, but I can't imagine them selling a new car with nothing in it for them.
Also was curious if we choose to finance over paying cash, that they would deal even more aggressively to obtain a new Mini Financial Services client.
I live in so cal and I'm willing to drive anywhere in the state to purchase. I just wish there was a dealer network search tool to find the cars that fit my needs as well.

We went through the USAA website and got $2500 off of MSRP on our 2015 Countryman. You can also try truecar and edmonds.

If you buy one off the lot, you'll get a better deal as opposed to ordering one.I got a $500 credit for MINI loyalty, $500 off sticker and they threw in free JCW Pro Mats and a Blackjack sunroof decal, mine was a fully loaded (ordered) S though, as for MINI financing, I got a low interest rate only because my dad lent me his credit and he gets a new BMW's yearly, but besides that they really suck, they wanted to give me a 12% APR(!!!!) on a new car, but I also was trying to finance 130% of what the MINI costs because I had a negative equity in a stupid Abarth (you're forewarned, make sure you like the Abarth before you buy one, they lose 50% of their value the second you drive off the lot!)
One of my best tactics to getting a good deal on an ordered car though is to order a fully loaded one, with ridiculous options a colour scheme that looks good (to me) but ridiculous to others, the dealer will want to sell it to you badly because they know it will sit on the lot for a while and don't want it there

I've heard of deals like this and Costco where they more or less negotiate with certain dealers. But you won't get much off from the dealer itself usually. Cars on the lot more than orders, last years' models of course (which you don't want yet, you want an F56). As a rule Minis sell for nearly sticker price. It's always been that way.Originally Posted by BrilliantC

i got my 2015 mcs under $24000 but i traded in a modified 2011 sentra ser spec v and a highly modified 2012 rcsb silverado set up for the strip. the bent me over on my trade ins so i walked the first time. got a little better deal that way. im sure some of the cost on the mcs was recouped in my trade ins to make me happy.

I got 4% off the price, meaning the dealership got about 2% profit off the sale. However I had developed a relationship with the MA by buying two BMW motorcycles from him previously. I used car cost Canada to find out what the dealership paid the them and went from there.

I emailed and followed - up with phone calls to a few mini dealers in my area (Long Island, Manhattan, New Jersey) and played them off of each other. In the end, I got a $1,500 off the sticker price of my 2015 MCS (and they had to get the car from another nearby dealership to get the exact one that I wanted). Mini financing was also offering 0.9% financing for 60 months. I was satisfied. BTW, love my mini.

Truecar.com was how i got mine. Sticker was just over $26k, Truecar had it listed at just under $25 and the dealer came in with an offer better than that at around $24k. Don't think I'll ever buy another car any other way.

It's weird that they don't discount more given that Mini turned up #9 in the top 10 fastest depreciating cars, losing a little over 29% in the 1st year. Doubly weird since Mini dealers brag about their brand's resale strength. I still love mine!

That is depressing but the good news is that all cars depreciate. Wonder what the number is for the Fiat?Originally Posted by ToyCar

Mini is best in segment. Countryman S very different from a Hardtop as far as profit margin FYI. There is a holdback but compared to most brands its a very small amount. For all you that think you raked your dealer over the coals its all timing. Right now on a 2door there are very few dealerside incentives. Paying cash will lessen your buying leverage not raise it. Most Dealers will be more deal friendly on old inventory as its costing them money each month.Originally Posted by ToyCar

Our MINI dealer was pretty much straight MSRP. Not like a Chevy or other US car where you have a huge selection of dealerships and local competition for buyers.
Costco has a great program, unfortunately out MINI didn't accept it.

I also used USAA but negotiated an even lower price below invoice. This is my first mini, no trade in was used.

All depends when you buy and from who plus incentives at the time. Last month was the best I have seen for incentives on the Hardtop.

Negotiated $4100 under MSRP of $28,600 on a 2015 F56 Hatch this week. Now's the right time for one of these, it seems.

That list seems completely made up. $9000 on Mini cooper with what configuration? It doesn't take much to know Jaguar is worst along with Lincoln and Cadillac. Range rovers are not that far behind. However, almost any other respectable publication puts Mini cooper with a good resale value list. In fact, Mini cooper and Jeep Wranglers - are two cars I would never understand the resale value. Their reliability is not that great (not considering new F5X cars) and still hold good value. Only reason is they are niche cars and people like to drive one.Originally Posted by ToyCar

Having said all this, I wanted to see whats usually the difference between invoice and MSRP. Doesn't look like much. I see about may be a $1000 difference on a $25k car.

I bought mine off the lot. 2014 certified. $4,000 of the sticker price with 4,000 miles. I think it was a good deal, and a good way to buy a car. You get an extra year on the warranty.

Thats $4000 off from the what the listed price of certified car or original new car? Problem is I want automatic with JCW interior package in 4 door. All those are a must and rest I can compromise. Unfortunately, dealers don't have them on their lot.Originally Posted by johncleary

Now one would think that since the dealer only has to do paperwork (not pay the fees associated with cars on his lot to the manufacturer), he would be willing to deal off the retail price. That however is not the case with most dealership.
Best you are likely to get is whatever rebates MINI is offering at the time and high wholesale on your trade-in (providing it's in pristine condition).
MINI has a pretty interesting appraisal model. The send the info and pictures of your trade-in to their corporate office who in turn returns a price (not sure if that is what actually happening, but by saying so, you cannot argue over the price being offered since the decision is made elsewhere).
Most MINI dealers know they are the only game in town, and if you want a MINI, you will pay their price or do without.
Best I got was near full value wholesale for my trade, $1000 rebate from MINI and $700 off MSRP.
It would be nice if we could get a list of dealers that do discount. I would be wiling to travel for a deal rather than pay "full boat" locally.
There are Corvette dealers that sell nationally and have courtesy deliveries locally or buy and drive home options. Discounts routinely are 10% MSRP with no haggling. Would be nice to get a MINI network of dealers willing to take less per car profit for quantity sales numbers.

In Dallas area, there are 3 dealers. I went to one and sales guy said we have 240 cars and ready to make a deal for in-stock. So I guess for in-stock they can give substantial discount. Not sure what will happen if I order one. I will try get a trade-in value for my car. My past experience with Mini is they give a low-ball offer. Last time Mini dealer told me to go to CarMax straight off. I got $1500 more in CarMax and paid sticker on Mini. If same thing happens, I will pass on buying the car this year. Wait till my current one is paid off and then think about it later. I am done with paying sticker on any car. I am pretty bored with my Lexus hybrid but not that desperate. Enjoying 46mpg combined driving.Originally Posted by USA-RET

BTW, Lexus dealers have always given me close to private party values for my car if you consider the sales tax benefit on trade in. Thats quite amazing! Just got NX200t for my wife. Everything done over email - they didn't even look at my old car - just said we will evaluate when you bring in. I take really good care of cars so I knew there won't be an issue. The Mini dealership I went to owns a Lexus dealership too - so will take a chance.

As a side note, when I got a quoted trade-in price for my car when we went in to order the MINI, and I had make sure the trade in price was going to be honored when we took delivery of the MINI (some 8-10 weeks later) The trade in quote is only good for 24 hours. Salesman told me they would have to re-evaluate my trade again when the MINI arrived. I told them that won't work from me since you are asking me for $1K down deposit (non-refundable) and then in 8 weeks low-ball me on my trade.....not going to happen. Either you order the car w/o a down payment and we re-valuate my trade-in at time of delivery or guarantee my trade-in price now.
The sales manager got involved at this point and agreed secure the trade-in price (providing I didn't wreck the car in the interim).
It all worked out in the end...........
