Drivetrain Malfunction

My son's '15 F-56 HT with manual transmission, 1300 miles on the odo, threw a "drivetrain malfunction, drive at moderate speed" warning while driving down the superslab. It also indicated to take it in for repair/servicing. The car made no odd sounds. An exam of the underpinnings indicated a small oil leak located under what appears to be the drive shaft that comes out of the transmission to go the right front drive apparatus. Looks like the seal is leaking to me, but there has been no oil on the garage floor. Yeah, I dropped both oil plug/filter covers and they were clean. We parked the car overnight and drove a few miles this morning to be picked up tommorrow. The check system indicated all is ok. Maybe this car is telling the son to slow down? Lol! Checked the forum and found no other cases like this Any opinions or ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you all very much!

I had that same error code, I was told that it's the new code for reduced power check engine light, which is a bit of a catch all. Mine seemed to be a case of bad gas (I filled it up, then immediately parked it for 5 days. When I got back and fired it up for the first time, it threw that code but then it went away after 2 days and I haven't seen it since).

Thank you both for your replies. I missed that thread when I searched through the back files. I considered a faulty code problem, but this car definately has a oil leak, it appears to have just started I think it is coming from the transmission. The engine oil check shows 100%, but we know that may not be correct according to your thread. It is loaded on a truck headed to the dealer. We will see what they find. I will post those findings here. Thanks again.

"Drivetrain" took a dive

Service dept made the diagnosis of a computer glitch involving the malfunction indicator with a remedy of reprogramming the computer this morning. I reminded them about the oil leak. Guess they did a recheck just informed me that the transmission oil was low with metal shavings present, and the main seal was leaking oil. The cure is a new transmission. Very happy that it is diagnosed correctly and things will be well. Something to be said about having a valid warranty. Just thought I would let you all know. Hope no one else has this problem. I am thinking that the next MINI I buy will be made in Oxford, not the Netherlands. Just a thought. Probably had nothing to do with the problem, but one nether knows!

Mine was built in Oxford and still had issues.

Oil leakage/seepage seems to be a common denominator in most of the issues.

You F56ers are presumably still under warranty. Why not take it in to MINI and have it diagnosed? Even if the light is no longer on, the code will still be stored in memory so they will be able to tell you what fault occurred.

I plan on it, but the dealer is 2 hours away from me. I'm going to have everything checked out all at once unless a serious issue arises.

I just got the drivetrain malfunction with my 2015 F56 Justa. Has 3500 miles on it. What I noticed before this happening when on several occasions (not all the time), when starting the car it would emit a big cloud of exhaust, then one day while driving the drivetrain malfunction along with the check engine light came on and I lost power and drove really rough.

Back in early March I had it for the check engine light, they said it was attributed to bad gas, put some additive in it and updated something with the computer.

So now its in the shop, they didn't get a full day to look at it yet, but tried to start and won't stay running and mentioned something about the intake system and were going to investigate maybe a blockage????? So not happy with this. as my prior mini had an issue with the water pump failure.

Dear God, if I had to drive 2 hours to have the Mini checked every time, i would be spending $300 a month in gas just to get the car checked..

WHEW, glad it's closer.

I have to drive 30 miles to the dealer and that feels too far. My MINI has been in the shop 3 times in the last 2 months. Happy joy joy!

I hope they were able to figure out what was wrong with your car.
