Don't know your car specifically, but YouTube has several videos showing how.

Why in God's name would you not take advantage of free servicing included in the cost of your car?

In the UK, a main dealer service history makes a large difference to the residual values of used cars. Does this not matter in the USA??

Some people live far away from the dealership. I don't think it makes any difference in resale value as long and they show "proof" of how they maintained the car. I think this mainly pertains to oil changes. On my other car the "free" oil changes were at 15,000 mile intervals, or yearly if that came sooner. Some people want it done more often.

We live far enough way from the dealership that service requires spending the night or two trips, either way it is not cost effective just to get an oil change.

That I can sympathise with - thanks for the explanation.

Back in the UK, if you travel more then 100 miles in any direction, you are likely to end up in the sea - so I take it for granted easy access to pretty much anything in a local radius. One thing I have had to get used to here in the US is putting a bit of effort into planning journeys and making sure I know where/when to fill up with petrol, err, I mean gas. I have not been caught out yet, but its got pretty close once or twice.

Doing the "free" oil changes is often the first job for kids who are just starting out in the repair shop of a dealer. I've seen firsthand some of the damage that is done - drain plugs are routinely zipped in with an impact, stripped or missing screws that retain the belly pan or the plastic belly pan itself cracked. Friend of mine at a Toyota dealer says he often has to use a breaker bar to remove the oil pan drain plug because it is socked in so hard from the guy who did the previous change. Can't entirely blame the operators, I believe Toyota pays something like 0.25 hours for oil and filter and tire rotation. Hard to be careful when you have those time restrictions.

I don't even like them racking my car - sometimes kids miss the lift points when setting a two post lift and do underbody damage. I'm really on the fence regarding the value of a free oil and filter change, given Mobil1 0w-40 is like $25 for five quarts and presumably once Mann starts making the filter cartridge for these motors it will be <$10.

That brings us back to the OP's question, does anyone know if there is a sequence to reset the oil interval without using a shop scan tool?

Bingo, i work as a advisor at VW.
And VW pays .70 for a oil change and tire rotation.
Be glad if those folks don't mess up a thing or 2, and not to mention finger prints and foot prints all over.

Lube tech is the beginner position, folks that shows loyalty and sign of advancement will then be send to school to become brand certified tech.

Possible that you can do the resets with an ELM327 and software for your computer/iPhone?

I thought everyone knew this already.. Press the Trip reset button for 10 seconds or so. You'll be able to go through the menus. I think to confirm reset, you have to long press again.

What VW dealer do you work for so I never never to come to you?

way to give your own guys a bad rep, must be crappy to be a tech working with you.

No need to get all worked up. He's just telling us the reality of how things are. There has to be a entry position where they start from. I think it'll be no different for any other dealers. I would do oil changes myself if the oil change wasn't included in the car price.

When I worked at Audi, and now I work at Bentley/Lamborghini, the new guys just didn't do just oil changes, everyone did them. And if its like any other Mini service department I've been to they don't hire just random people they typically hire trained or techs with school to start out.

And fingerprints and footprints? How is that avoidable for a tech thats working on the car? That's what floormats, seat covers, and having the car washed and cleaned before it's delivered to the customer.

Sorry Jeri if i offended you.
But the truth is, not every tech out there is as dedicated as you are.
Now answer me, can you vouch with your life that ALL THE TECHS IN THIS WORLD, care for a customers car just as much they care for their own?

Also, i cant give my guys bad reps when they are already producing bad reps upon themselves from their work.

PS: I stated LUBE TECHs, not certified techs.
