Bonnet Stripes - price installed by dealer

My wife recently ordered a 2015 Mini 4-door in Moonwalk gray with white roof/mirrors. She ordered without the bonnet stripes, but now is having second thoughts. She called the sales advisor, and was told that the car already started production and it was too late to add them now. They could be installed at the dealership, however, at a cost of $300. It would have only been $100 if ordered with the car. Is this the correct price?

Dealers can set their own pricing for addons (it's the labor that gets ya), but they should be able to at least meet you in the middle...

If you're stuck paying the $300, consider going to a 3rd party vendor and getting something different. EVERYONE has the same stripes.

BTW, I thought I read these stripes were installed in the U.S. where the cars are off-loaded from the ship and prepped for shipment to the dealer. (Can't remember the term.)

True, stripes and a lot of accessories are installed at the VDC. One would think since they get added at the VDC, not in the factory, they could still add them...

I'd do this. A lot cheaper and you can be much more original. I wish mine had no stripes when I bought it (got it off the lot). I would have done something different and had it come all the way back.

I'd do something different as well. The Viper Stripe idea has them going up the middle instead of on both sides. Maybe white on the hood/back and grey on the roof if you don't have a sunroof.

I have a Pepper White with black roof. I'd do an offset stripe up the right side of the bonnet in black, then white over the roof, then black down the back. I'd so a wide and a narrow stripe. Would look so cool.

Since the window sticker has already been printed, they can't be added at the VDC. Once added on the dealer lot, and "addendum" is made and affixed next to the window sticker. $300 is not bad to add a set of stripes

Yeah, like the $200 they added for the Mini windshield sunshade and the $300 they added for the stubby antenna on my car lol. So-called "dealer installed options". What you do with that is say "take it off". Then they say "we won't charge you for it, but we can't take it off". C'mon folks, the sunshade was in a box in the boot for godsakes. It is pretty nice though lol. They can take the stripes off, I had them remove the black ones on my roof that were fading to grey already.

Go aftermarket.

I had a friend of mine cut and install some custom stripes on the fiancee's R56 for a six pack of good craft beer and a $20.

I would say if you're stuck paying the $300, see what a good 3rd party place can do. Like others have mentioned, you could do unique stripes and make yours stand out more and if you don't find anything, you can always have the dealer do the standard stripes down the line too.

Not uncommon for people to go back to the dealer after they pick up their car and add stripes.

As long as the vehicle has not been invoiced, the Monroney Sticker should not have been printed and it may not be too late for your dealer to have them added at the port (VDC). This should save you some $$, albeit only a little bit. And, if you are leasing the vehicle, the price of the stripes (or any other accessories) would be amortized into the lease rather than you paying for them in full.

The prices for the stripes over the parts counter are about $70 each (L & R), I think, plus the labor to install them (varies). ANY option is going to be infinitely less expensive to add at the factory.

That being said, there are SOOOOOOOO many unique options out there to express your Cooper's individuality, so I say leave it be and decide later! I omitted the stripes on mine so I could do just that. In the end, I went a completely different direction and I am super happy with the results. Bonnet stripes would not have really worked in the end so I am glad I didn't get them, which was my first Cooper S without them BTW.

I had the same issue when I had ordered my 2011. Since it was taking longer to deliver my vehicle then they had promised I used that as a reason they shouldn't charge me. Eventually they agreed and did it for free (stripes we're a no cost option of the sport package back then).

For my 2013 I paid for the stripes myself (since I bought it used) and the dealer charged me $200. I think it was like $70 per stripe plus labor.

Go aftermarket. There are tons of Graphic companies out there and you can easily install them yourself in less than a 1/2 hour. Just wet the car with water with a few drops of dishwasher liquid in it and you will be able to position the stripes without them sticking immediately. Use something like a credit card to push out any air bubbles and you're set. I bet you can find lots of options and spend less than $50

those look great. Mine are similar, but I had them remove the graying ones on the roof.

It's like putting a screen saver on your iPhone only bigger.
