Upgrading the stock stereo system

Hey guys, just curious, has anyone here upgraded the stock stereo system. I got the base stereo system in my 2014 MCS, for what it is its not bad but honestly the $300 system i put in my 1996 beater civic sounds better.

What will work, obviously removing the head unit is not an option, amplifier? new door speakers?

Has anyone here actually done anything yet and how did it work?

Try the Navigation and Audio forum. I think a person from England who posts here did something to his audio system maybe aftermarket speakers. There's an outfit called Intergrated Audio (I think) that makes a whole kit for the R56 GenII Minis. It includes amp, speakers, crossovers, wiring harness, and subwpoofer (optional). I think the basic kit is $1300, sub $700. About half the people install themselves (there's a whole video) the rest get a shop to do it. The guy told me that because of the unique EQ settings of the Mini's amp dropping in speakers doesn't sound good, you need the amp. They don't sell the speakers separately. As of recently they hadn't come up with a system for the F56 but I imagine they will.

Check some of my treads. Speakers are an easy upgrade. But not cheap.
Focal make some for BMW that fit. IFBMW-C and IFBMW-S for the A pillar tweeter. There is not much space for amps...But there are places.
HU is speaker level even on the HK system...analogue.
