F55/F56 Long drive impressions
Long drive impressions
I just recently completed a long road trip with my MCS. I drove from the DC area to South Florida and back. The car performed perfectly. The first day of the drive took me from Northern Virginia to Atlanta. The second day took me from Atlanta to South Florida. After spending a few days with family and friends, I drove the 1000 miles back to No. Va. straight through. Obviously, I like long distance driving! While I'm not to OCD about my gas mileage, I think I got between 32 and 35 mpg, generally cruising (with cruise control) at between 75 and 80 mph. The MCS seats were very supportive and comfortable and the fatigue was pretty minimal, given the long drives. The only down side was adding over 2200 miles on the odometer.
Welcome to the whatever. We've several long distance MINI meanders under out belt, the last a 5600 mile adventure into the hills of KY, WV, PA and into New England. Next year's planning so far is up to 6K. We have never had a ride that made motoring this comfortable and enjoyable in over 30 years of sight seeing. Hope you are able to add to your list.
Well, Trip, don't fritter away your vacation time in casinos or the like and don't waste your retirement thinking about what you could'a done. Google Maps, Google Earth and Rand/McNally can lead you into some once in a lifetime adventures and you don't have to leave the country.
If you (the collective you, that is) are so inclined to be in search of the 'zen of motoring', may I suggest three volumes written by William Least Heat-Moon; "Blue Highways", "PrairyErth" and "Road to Quoz"
