2014 MCS Software Update?

I've noticed a number of threads where people mentioned a software update for the '14 Mini. I have not been notified by my dealer to bring my MCS in for the update. Well, actually my dealer scheduled a "software update" in conjunction with a radio connection issue, but that was cancelled when I resolved the issue on my own. Now I'm wondering if the "software update" they were going to do, which would have taken a couple of hours according to my dealer, is the one that people are talking about.

So, is there indeed a software update that I should get?
If so, does anyone know what fixes it includes?

The software update fixed the drivetrain malfunction error on my MCS.

Call your selling dealer, give your VIN and find out for sure.

But I thought the ECM software update is for the 1.5L model not the S model with 2.0L.

Has your MCS experienced the engine stalling issue especially while coasting down (off throttle)?

I never did one on my 2007. I think they only do one if something screws up. I was under the impression that they more or less reflashed what you already had. I don't think they do it like cellphones. That would take a lot of time.

I don't own one yet, but I read from several posts that it took away "Green Coasting" feature in automatics.

"When you’re in Green Mode and you take your foot off the gas pedal, a coasting feature will disengage your automatic transmission (if you have one) and control your deceleration."

If they disabled that feature completely, I wonder how long it'll take for them to remove that description from their webpage.

I seem to recall reading that you could disable coasting. I wonder if they changed it so that you need to enable coasting.

No, I think that was a different car.

The software update I've mentioned in another thread was for the 3 pot - not sure if anything for the MCS. Mine was applied after a stalling episode at slow speed. I still have my coasting feature but it doesn't seem as readily available. I'm obsessed with coasting distances when traffic is heavy - currently can get 2km out of the 10km drive home! Aiming for more. Hypermiling may be my new obsession. Before the performance upgrades arrive that is!

This. Exactly. They did that, but in another thread someone commented that now it seems to charge up the battery "more" than before. I can confirm that battery charging (along with the requisite engine braking), does occur now.

There's no previous "true glide" where the tranny disengages and the engine RPMS dip down to the 500s anymore when coasting.

Our F56 that sat at the VDC for 2 months has the new software. The dealer told us they check for any software updates when they processed the car for delivery.

No stalling issue. Actually no issues to speak of. Makes sense that the update might be for the 1.5L Justa only.

I'll have to check with my Mini's service department. Thanks for the replies.

There is a pending update out there for the 2014 F56S for those of us that have had the problem w/ the transmission locking. Should be out in November.

1 month >10 SW updates!!!

I was at the dealer today to get my vent fixed (this thread) and out of curiosity I asked my SA about any new SW updates, he checked and said that my car is now about 10 versions behind.

I had my SW updated on 9/23, So in less than one month there have been at least 10 new versions. I asked him if this was common. He said yes.

He said that it does take "a while" for the SW to be updated, and I didn't have that much time on my hands, so I said I'd come back. Heck, maybe they'll fix Coasting by bringing it back! LOL

They quoted me 4 hours to do the software updates. Something about a TRS-80 under the bonnet.

Wow.. 10 revisions? They should let our cars connect to wifi or something and just let it download the updates, kind of like Windows Update.

Seriously, I wish they disclosed a change log.

It would be great if we had the ability to do updates at home, like you said, especially with as many updates as they have had in the course of only ONE month. No way can I afford to go to my dealer for every update. And yet some of those updates might be critical to my particular vehicle.
