Cargo space...

Hello.
Just got another question... This time, about cargo area.
I am going to haul my nearly 60 pound puppy more than likely in the back.
If going in from the door to back seat doesn't work out...
Will the seats fold down completely flat?
I do see the 'well' in the back (I am sure its quite convenient for what
it is designed for)...and so I am wondering if there's some way to
put 'lid' on it. Hopefully this 'lid' can hold some weight...
If there's anyone with info/ideas to share, I'd be appreciative...

I think the "lid" was available with the optional storage package that you didn't buy. You can probably still buy a storage "box" that sits in the well and makes it flat. They're pretty pricey. I don't think your back seat folds completely flat, that comes with the storage package too. What you could do is fold the seat down and throw a dog bed in the back for him to lay on. Cheap.

You want to opt for the Storage Pack to get the flat load floor. However, if you wind up with a car that doesn't have the package, you can buy the load floor for ~$130 and place it over the well. It won't hinge and it won't make for a completely flat floor but it will make for a better storage surface.

60 lbs can fit in the little well with a bed easily.
Throw a bed back there and let the dog figure out where he likes to sleep.
You could also cut a piece of plywood to fit.

This is why I want an F55 with a rear seat cover. My dog would eat anything in her way to get to an open window. Putting her in the hatch area would cause a complete meltdown. Having rear windows that open is a must for me.

The rear windows don't open in the hatchback cars, only the R56 4 door models. FYI.

Right, which is why I want an F55, the new five door Cooper.

Well, for the dog, for the impending baby and so that my bikes fit inside.

Storage package is handy

My "puppy" (15-years old) is about 60 lbs. as well, and I have the back set up with the seats down, the shelf (which came with the optional storage package) configured to make the cargo area level with the seats, then his bed on top of all that. I spread an old all-season floor mat across the bumper and top part of the hatch opening when loading him in and out, so his nails won't scratch anything. He's been happy with it, and it's easy for me to reach in to help and maneuver him.

You can probably use old towels, etc. to fill the cargo "well", but the shelf definitely comes in handy for other situations. I can lower it down when loading up groceries (allowing the hatch to close easily), or raise it up to make things level for my dog or when loading long items.

The storage pack doesn't give you a flat load floor, fyi. I figured it would too, but it doesn't.

I must be missing a subtlety in what you're saying. I have a loaner 2014 Justa with the storage option. It folds flat. You just slide the cover onto the top slot. What am I missing (or assuming)?

I specially bought the CM for them. They may seat on the leather seats or in the back like they wish.
The chow weights 70 lbs and the Maine Coon 28 lbs.

You can take a cat in your car - a 28 pounder at that - and live to tell the tale

Maybe I'm the one missing something, I don't have a cover that slides into any top slot. Mine has the false floor but it doesn't provide a flat loading surface when the seats are folded. Hmm...

We are all using English here but in two different dialects... The configuration of the trunk for the Justa is a little different than the S due to the exhaust routing under the car. The Justa, with the optional storage package allows for the moveable platform to be placed in a lower position that creates a shallow well in the boot (there is still part of the full well underneath the platform board). When the platform board is in the upper position, it is level with the folded seat backs and creates a flat storage area that runs from the back of the front seats to the inside of the hatch door and creates a huge well!). These configurations work in concert with the brackets and hinge devices that are part of the Storage Package (shown in the proceeding excerpt from the manual). With the S model, you may not have the two positions available for the platform again due to the exhaust affecting the trunk configuration.

The 2 positions for the backrest of back seats (vertical and tilted back) are on all the cars.

You're definitely right, I had no idea the shelf had 2 positions. Yay!

My S with storage pkg. folds the way Landspeeder defines.
We are flat throughout.

Thank you everyone for the info!
I will definitely look into adding the storage package when
we order. (well, if we take the one on the lot, we will just go with
throwing the bed in back and let him figure it out option...of course...)

@deovolens - Wow! You have big fur babies! And with such talent!!

Thank you again, everyone!

DeepBonnet bought a cargo area mat and backed it with some material. I thought that was pretty smart.

There's a great set of photos, almost a photo essay, by MT Motorin about the cargo area in this thread:

Can't figure out how you got hold of Darlo. He insists he's never left the house without us.

Late to the party here, but I'm wondering if you can offer any details about your reply. Are you referring to the oem part or are you aware of aftermarket solutions? I was told the oem wouldn't work if I didn't have the package, but wondering if that's not true. Been looking for a third-party aftermarket option and haven't had luck.
