I hope MINI will get this issue taken care of by the time when I buy the next gen manual Countryman with 2.0L.

Just picked mine up. Feels tight now. I guess that's cause it's new. The service advisor said they have the same problem on 2 other cars. not sure how many 2014's they delivered but I doubt it is more than 60 and out of those how many standards? Not good I would say. He even said he could not guarantee it would not happen again! Well at least I have my car back...

Not to rain on your parade, but if this many people are having issues, I wouldn't at all be surprised if it happened again.

Just happened on my 2014 MCS MT with 2500 miles. Never happened before and just did it twice in a short 3 mile trip

Update:

Took it out again, did a number of first gear starts from stopped and I couldnt get it to replicate. Not sure if maybe I just didnt put it fully into 1st? although ive never before messed that up..

Im going to keep and eye on it and I will contact the dealer if it happens again. However unless I can figure out how to replicate it I cant see them doing anything about it. Im surprised they are replacing transmissions on these, it really seems more like a linkage issue or something less severe. I would rather not have my brand new cars transmission replaced unless they are replacing it with an updated piece.

I, too, am having this issue with my 2015 Cooper S Hardtop. It started with less than 300 miles on it, and it has happened at least 10 times and only has 900 miles. This, as well as two popped tires in the first week and the 2 month delay, is not making me a very happy MINI customer...

Can you replicate it? Mine did it again today but I can't get it to do it again on command. Just seems to happen randomly every once in a while. But yea keep us updated

Got this lovely message the other day as well. They said it may take awhile and gave me a loaner car. At first they told me it would just need to be reprogrammed.. We will see.

That's a drag you two. Something tells me this isn't some "bugfix" or "software glitch". Sounds more mechanical to me. These are manual trannys I assume.

Looks like the reduced power mode message that was a familiar sight on some BMWs. Could mean anything. But on my old car it was most commonly associated with a bad HPFP.

I had a bad HPFP in my 2007 Mini. It never slipped out of first gear. It would intermittently fail to start on the first button push, usually first try of the day. Once it started it was fine. No warning screens. This went on for maybe a month. Finally it barely started, it just sputtered weakly and wouldn't rev when I pushed on the gas pedal. Then it wouldn't start at all. I don't think that's what's going on here.

Yes it's a 2014 MCS F56 w/ manual transmission. It has just under 3000 miles.

Oh didn't read his prior post, thought he was just venting. with the slipping 1st gear, it looks like a new transmission is in your future based on some of the posts I've seen on minif56.com.

I got my car back today. They couldn't get it to happen so all they did was a reprogram. We will see.. I'm probably gonna setup my gopro to have proof if it happens again.

Started happening to me more and more, today in like 4 miles of city driving it happened 4 times, once when i had pulled in front of traffic making a left turn.

Heres a video. Mine is a 2014 cooper S 6 speed manual, build date 04/2014. Only mod is coil overs but it happened some prior to those being installed.

GOOD NEWS - I did finally get a video of this.

Hard to see much, but I am at a stop and accelerating out of first gear, it usually happens below or around 3k RPM. Never had it pop out at a higher RPM but i rarely run 1st gear to redline.

Thank you! This could come in handy when I finally stop by the dealer and get mine fixed. I have noticed that you can feel it when first gear isn't 100% pushed in, so I have been able to avoid the problem for now. I don't enjoy having to be cautious each time I accelerate, however

yeah move thread to problem section. Danger Dan needs a new tranny, or at least the linkage. Like I said that's a mechanical problem in need of a mechanical solution.

Spent about 2 hours at the dealer today. First the tech couldn't teplicate the problem, then I got in and made it happen twice with him the the passenger seat. The head of the service department then rode with me and I was able to get it to happen once more. For some reason none of them could relicate it though.

Also printed this thread and one from mini f56 and let him have the papers.

They are submitting this info to mini/bmw engineers and they are supposed to be calling me back today or Monday to tell me what the plan is to repair it. The tech who rode with me seemed to think it was maybe a syncro issue or something faulty from the factory. In the mean time I'm still driving it, makes me super nervous when I have to drive through the city especially making left turns and at lights.

I'll keep everyone posted on the solution

EDIT: just got the call, they will be replacing the transmission.... Not sure how I feel about this, just hoping it feels like it did new. At least it's a full replacement rather than rebuilding it or cracking it open and replacing parts.

I am going through the same issue. Within the first few days of driving it popped out 8 times. Left it at the dealer for 2 days and they say it won't pop out for them. Brought the car home and it popped out at least a dozen more times. Took the car back in and again they claim they see no problem. I contacted BMW/MINI via their Dealership Satisfaction survey which was emailed to me and complained. The next morning the dealer was falling over itself to help me out, but the car still sits there and the service dept. says it "might" have popped out once, but they're not certain. Next step is for me to drive with their service people in the car with me. In the mean time I'm driving a Clubman S loaner.

update... I received a call from my MINI dealer saying that my transmission will be replaced...hoping for a good one.
