F55/F56 aftermarket safety equipment question
aftermarket safety equipment question
Hello,
Will installing an aftermarket safety equipment void the manufacturer warranty? Since there is no pre-collision warning system on 2014 model, I am thinking to install a Mobileye model 560 on my car. It can only sound the alarm and no auto braking but is better than nothing. For everyone's reference, I got a quote for $1100 plus $50 tax on the parts. I will ask AAA if such device can help to lower my insurance premium. I will keep the forum posted.
BTW, I still don't see the warning system available on Mini's configurator. Does anyone know the price?

I would check that statement a bit further up the food chain at your dealership. As stated, that would mean hard wiring a radar detector into the auto-dimming mirror wiring (as someone else has talked about here) or anything else that didn't go in the cigarette lighter outlet would void your warranty. I find that hard to believe that's true, but I'd sure like a more authoritative read on that.

The statement your SA gave you is the "party line" from mini/BMW....
Basicly if the item you added CAUSES an issues...than THAT ISSUE and diagnosing of the issue is not covered....
For example you have the system installed....and the person doing the install taps a power line rather than adding another fuse....the wire tapped causes an interminient issue....you would get the bill for the fix, but you would not have to pay if a wheel bearing failed, since it is obviously not due to the added on item....
Mini WANTS to encourage you to buy ONLY THEIR STUFF....and and issues due to non OEM stuff are not covered. Period. They just want to scare you a bit and make a sale...kinda like them selling $750 paint sealants (at delivery)that your local detailer would do for $150 when added to a detail job....
In some ways the statement DOES have your best interest at heart....do not (IMO) get cheap junk from China, then install in a terrible diy if you need help installing a lightbulb....
But if you are having a quality Item professionally installed by competent people, I think you are fine.
Warning label on the inside of the hood on my F56. I guess I'm going to blow my warranty clean out of the water when I add suspension components to make the car actually handle like a MINI.

Important: Installation and operation of non-MINI approved accessories such as alarms, radios, amplifiers,
radar detectors, wheels, suspension components, brake dust shields, telephones or transceiver equipment
may cause extensive damage to the vehicle, compromise its safety, interfere with the vehicle's electrical
system or affect the validity of the MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty. Do not place covers, cushions
or other items to the front seats that have not been approved by MINI for seats with built-in side airbags. Use
of such non-approved items could hinder or even disable airbag deployment. Refer to your Owner's Manual
and see your authorized MINI Dealer for additional information.
Do not use key or remote to lock doors or trunk with anyone inside the car. See Owner's Manual for more details.
Use caution whenever moving the driver's seat or closing the windows/sunroof, so that occupants or
pets are not trapped.

I think a lot of these "warnings" and "prohibitions" from the maker are due to the litigious nature of (particularly) North American society. Car makers can be sued for just about anything these days, including things far beyond their control. Many ppl today will not take responsibility for their own actions (not my fault!!). Just the way it is today.
