I'm confused, we just bought our 2014 Hardtop in May, two months after deliveries started in the US, and they're already not selling 2014 by the end of June?
Any concerns out there, from 2014 owners, about limited parts, etc. when we need them, because they've moved onto 2015 already?
Perhaps the limited release will make them have higher resale value. It's just odd.

Parts availability shouldn't be a problem since the car wasn't changed at all. It was rather rude of Mini/BMW to only sell '14s because owners are going to eat a whole year of depreciation almost instantly now that '15s are being made.

This is primarily because of the later than expected release of the 2014. You shouldn't have ANY worries on parts as from that standpoint there are little if any differences between 14 and 15.

Greg, nice try, but in the end a '14 is going to be slightly lesser value than a '15. They are separate model years and will be valued as such as separate model years. In a way I wish I waited to order a '15, but I never expected as short a MY run as we had for the '14.

Bob - This is the edge of a movement. If we all say it long and often enough, it will be so! I owned a 98.5 Audi A4 once. They made changes that made the car better half way through the year. That stuck!
Hope you are enjoying your 2014/15 model MCS Bob! :-)

Keeping it 5 - 7 years and I don't think I'll care at that point about any difference in value. As far as I know 99% of the parts are the same, availability now is limited due to new model issues experienced by all customers purchasing new models.

I don't understand why people worry about resale value ... but then I took delivery of my 2002 MCS 12 years ago tomorrow and sold my previous car (a 1973 BMW 2002tii) after driving it for almost 30 years.
It's not just about resale value, it's about insurance value too. If you owe more than it's worth...you're screwed before you even drive it off the lot. I mean, I'm paying full price for my car, assuming it was going to be new until next year or at least the rest of this year...at least. Instead, I haven't even taken ownership of it yet, and it's a one year old; regardless of when I got it, it's already last years model, and worth less.
I don't know now, if my insurance will properly cover me. They are my first call today.
I checked the Kelly Blue Book, and unfortunately, they don't even have the 2015 listed yet, so I wrote them. They said that a new year definitely can reduce the value of the previous years. I'll need to figure this out before we sign on the dotted line. Mini needs to take some responsibility in this fiasco, because four days after I ordered the car on May 15, it was last years model, and I didn't even find out until today. And...I'm picking it up this week. I'm mad.
BTW, a guy private messaged me, and told me what he bought his car the day before they stopped taking orders on the 2014, his was almost $2000 less than mine. I don't know if that's true, I'd like to see is purchase sheet, but they do have to offer incentives to get them off the lot in favor of the new year, because people want the newest toys. They're already stuck with too many 2013's.

Off topic, but did you get yours yet?Originally Posted by Stay Curious

No. Dang it. MA contacted tonight, maybe tomorrow. If patience is a virtue, I'm not very virtuous at this point!

I'm personally not worried about resale, either. I just consider my car more "rare", since 2014s were only a limited run. :-P

Considering the 2015's cost more than the 2014's I would think that the resale value would be bumped up.

I think some of the websites expected that the F56 would be officially 2015s, but it didn't happen.
Let's face it, we owners of 2014s got screwed. Yeah, maybe if you keep your 2014 for 10 years, it won't be as bad a screwing, but don't kid yourself, you were.

Buying a first year of any new redesign carries risk. Upgrades during the model run typically make the later years more desirable. My 13 JCW is a month old, has about 350 miles on it, and is now a two year old car. I don't care since I plan on keeping this car a long time.

Yes, but you knew that when you bought it and likely got a nice discount.
It doesn't relate to a car just arriving in the US in April 2014 that just as easily could have been a 2015 -- if BMW had chosen to do so.

The key word in this comment is "first year" It wasn't even on the showroom three full months!Originally Posted by 2Miniacs

Not that it will do any good, but you can always complain to David Duncan, Vice President MINI of the Americas at 300 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Woodcliff Lake, NJ 07677. And/or to Ludwig Willisch, President and Chief Executive Officer of BMW Of North America, at the same address.
torpeau, THANK YOU. I'm really big on letter writing, when think something has been done, that is unfair or wrong. I think this is definitely a case in point.
We talked with the finance guy yesterday, when we picked up the Mini. The delay was only in the US, everywhere else had a full year. Mini delivered over a 1000 cars to port, and they wouldn't clear them because they didn't believe the MPG was correct. They had to go through and re-certify their claims, then get approved, then they were released because they DID get the MPG.
HOWEVER, that has left a lot of us screwed...and the purposely did not let even the dealerships know the 2015's where coming out that fast. Our only saving grace is that they made the 2015's more expensive, but still it was the omission of fact that was wrong and leaves a me irritated.
Again, thanks for the name and address. I'll voice my concerns, because, this is not how Mini wants it's customers to feel.

Innovative new car models don't always appear at the beginning of the model year.
I bought a Subaru Impreza new in June 1993. It was the debut of the Impreza series and first started shipping in March 1993, more than halfway into their model year.
Did I care? No. The car was what I needed.
I kept the car for 17 years, and it didn't owe me a cent.
I forget if it was Car and Driver or Road and Track that did a long term review... They loved the car and said "Our only complaint about the car is if you leave it it outside it gets dirty".
It would be nice if the F56 comes close to that wonderful review.
