Greg just comparing stock base stereo to the HK. Not HK to aftermarket.

They are slim for size and weight/ space. They use them in the Logic 7 in Rolls Royce and it sounds great.

Good luck on the speaker project.

Those are a picture of the HK magnets - really pretty small. Don't you think? I know it's not a great picture!

+1. Same here, same company but through amazon. US pricing is stupid and for what reason?

Can you give a close shot of the plastic clips please? I'd like to be prepared to replace them clips if they break while openning them.

Or are these the same ones you saw in there?http://m.ebay.com/itm/281450947015

I might be openning the door trim to put some Dynamat type stuff I have laying around.

BTW, sound deadening also enhances sound quality from speakers, but I'm sure everyone knew that already.

That's them. Why not buy from ECS tuning or Sewell. They support us and have better pricing?

Thanks. These are like 10 for $9.59 on ebay, free shipping.
Part #51-41-8-224-768

I hated paying $2.75 each x 10 from Mazda dealer when my clips on CX-5 broke while removing door trim. Later found that ebay has 25 pack for around $10.

ECS has them for 99c each for BMW/Mini ones and cheaper for knockoffs. Did not check Sewell's pricing.

For an OEM Speaker its not that small. Check out other car manufacturer they are really cheap looking.

Thanks a lot for the link and details. Looks like if I'm only buying some of the plastic clips, it's cheaper at fleabay. I'll have to see once I get my car maybe in late November. lol.

Just found out from Focal in France that the IFBMW-S's won't sound good in my MINI. They are 4 ohms and the Harman Kardon speakers are 2 ohms. They say they will sound great in the base system if anyone is interested!

zx9 - Do you think you could get a 5 1/4" in behind the door panel? it would be tight! Kappa infinities have a 2 ohm component set! Kappa's are pretty awesome. They are all owned by Harman...Infinity, JBL and HK

The IFBMW- Sub speakers are available now. They should fit. The HK system has 217mm (8 1/2") subs. The stock subs are 6 1/2" - I think. I would pull your seat and take a look.
Here's the link to the manual and installation in a BMW

Ended up ordering the Ifbmw-s's and a set of Jehnert XE200r's for under the seats and two amps (Focals) all the speakers will then be 4 ohms so hopefully will - for a small fortune - fill in the missing mid-bass. I'm probably will not take the Jehnert's below 60k. Those boxes are pretty small and vent into the door sills.

Kept the non-HK stock speakers (6), but added JL tweets and 12" sub (boot)

For cost savings, I decided not to replace any of the six stock speakers in the non-HK F56 for now. I think components sound better than coaxials in my limited experience. So I added JL tweets to the A columns and a 12" JL sub to the boot compartment. For amps, I used a 500w JL mono block for the sub and a new Audison amp. with eq for the six mids and two tweets. It has been installed by a pro shop but it hasn't been tuned yet, so I'm hoping I'll be satisfied. I can always upgrade the stock speakers later on. I love Focal and JL stuff, so either would be fine with me.

Hey ZX9 - Did you install these speakers? I now have a set of both the 100KRS's and IFBMW-S's. I read somewhere that the KRS's don't go very low (200hz) so there is a gap if you install subs under the seats. Just wondered how they sound. The magnets on the IFBMW-S's are easily twice the size.
