Basic Display

I hadn't seen a picture with graphics on this display before.

It's unfortunate they put so little into the base display, as it really looks like something you would find a 10k car from 10 years ago. Not sure what they would do with all that real estate by not adding a large color display but the current iteration is very much a failed execution. Wonder how easy it would be to do something aftermarket that looks good?

My dealer had a cooper s pretty fully loaded but with the base stereo that was a cancelled customer order. It ruined the whole interior but someone bought it. I guess not everybody wants all that tech

I opted for the basic display as I did not want the large screens that come with the MINI Connected packages (too distracting for my taste). The standard setup does everything I need from a car stereo and I like the orange backlighting.

Big difference between the two options. But either works in the MINI. The base seems to blend better with the base Cooper.

I have the base radio and I thought at first I would not like it but it has grown on me now. My husband and I are tech nuts so you would think we would go for fully loaded but we did not. To each there own I guess right?

Personally, I prefer to drive my car and play on the computer at home.

I specifically got the bigger screen because the base looks bad to me... I didn't opt for anything that would actually use the screen (like back up camera) which makes me happy I'm getting a 2014.

Great stuff, thanks for posting the pictures.

This is the configuration I'm planning to get - it looks perfectly fine to me.

Yeah, I was a little worried about functionality, but it looks easy to use.

It looks pretty good in these pictures.

I have a long wait, so have to stop thinking about it.

I think I need to come up with an insert to make use of the space at the bottom and top.

I wish I had a 3D printer.

Doesnt bother me, bought the car for the fun factor and not the toys. Granted I know that is fun for some.

It's one of the reasons I'm regretting buying off the lot... I'm really contemplating trading my F56 justa back in and actually ordering one the way I want it.. Mini connected would be a must have and Harmon Kardon sound...

Reading this thread cracks me up. Makes me think about the boys in high school throwing their things out there, to see who's is bigger and better. Remember the conversations of teen boys? "I've got 12" woofers with a Quadrophonic Blaupunkt." "Yea? Well I got chromed Einkies with low profile treads." It's too funny. Not an insult, just a qwippy observation.

You can't get more techy than my husband, but we went for the base model with a few extra's like alarm, sports seats, and leather steering wheel (the regular one kept slipping in his hands).

We decided to disconnect from the Feed, and just enjoy driving the car without the toys we already have in the comfort of our home. Our Mini is to get away from it all...or to be used to drive to and from it all. haha

Each person will have their likes and dislikes, and our next one will probably have more...or perhaps less. We'll see once we have it awhile.

I just ask, all of you with all the bells and whistles, PLEASE be careful and not play with them while your driving. Pull off the road, or do it at a light, I want my united brotherhood of Mini's to all be safe!

I was thinking this week, why wouldn't a manufacturer just put an iPad in the dash? Or an iPad mount.

Everything is software and communication, and that would be a huge bang for the buck. Especially if you made a deal with Apple.

An Android tablet would be cheap, cheap, do more than current system, be more flexible and easier, cheaper to update.

I deleted the premium pkg due to the following reasons,
- Me and my families were lucky to walk away without any injury from a roll over accident on my '01 Toyota Avalon with moon roof. The windshield and moon roof glass were badly broken. I decided to remove the sunroof from my Mini. Hopefully the roof will hold up strong and the extra headroom offers more cushion space in case something bad happens again.
- Coming from a so call audiophile background, my listening usually takes place at home using Audio Research Vsi60 with Harbeth SHL5. Car stereo is not important to me even on a long trip.
I added the climate ctrl back as stand alone option after premium pkg deleted. Not the best bang for the buck decision but still saved around $1000.

My Mazda3 basically has this lol. It's my substitute quirk for the center speedo and actually works quite well!

The more tech the better in my eyes. I want my car to be a rolling version of my house lol

I got my justa with the basic radio, too. I traded in a 2012 Veloster, and in just 2.5 years, the display on it, which had been so awesome when I got the car, looked really dated compared to some of the newer Hyundais.

I'm planning on keeping this girl for some time and felt that technology in 4 or 5 years will have really bypassed the display, but the basic radio will still look as goofy as it does now and still work ok

fyi...you can have the basic radio and HK sound...that's what i have. as others have said, the tech stuff wasnt' necessary for me...but the sound was...which is why i just went with the HK upgrade w/the basic radio.

Yup, I've got the same arrangement. It was on the lot that way and I feel lucky that it had the HK stereo. I don't care much about the nag and whatnot, but I do get curious about the fish people talk about sometimes!
