F55/F56 Whats up with cloth seats?
Whats up with cloth seats?
I went to MINI of Seattle to check out the new cars and there was not one single car with cloth seats. The MA said that the cloth was too rough feeling and no one wanted it? She said it felt like you were sitting on burlap.
They also had very few cars to show since she said that they sell as fast as they can get them and most of the F56's that they had were already sold.
Anyone have some feedback on the cloth seats?

They are a bit rough in comparison to traditional cloth seats. I liked that they would be cooler in the heat and still heated in the winter but ended up keeping the regular Leatherette as it's super easy to clean/maintain and ages well.
Assuming you're referring to the Black Pearl Cloth / Leatherette seats ...

The Double Stripe Carbon Black Cloth seats available in the JCW Interior Package don't appear to be made of the same "burlap" material ...

I have to say that the majority of the F56s I've seen are not the cloth. It does feel a bit rough, but there are people who like it.
On a side note, I was talking to my MA the other day and he mentioned that the new MINIs have been selling extremely well. Doesn't surprise me at all.

If you want cloth seats, might as well add the JCW interior as it gives you lot's of stuff for $600 Cooper/$400 S.

I would say b/c of limited supply + delays
Burlap? Grandmas couch? Naaaa not even remotely. The pearl seats are incredible, and yes a much more robust material (recycled), but who rides bare *** around town in their cars anyway? These things are made to last, and I absolutely love them.

What a load of hogwash! Typical salesperson drivel! If it was true she would have one to show you as no one wanted it! As if Mini BMW would use a burlap type cloth!
Oh that's a lot of exclamation marks in one post hehe
(PS- It's typical for sales to dislike the features not in the cars they have bulk ordered!)
The first time I saw/felt the Black Pearl seats, I thought they were rough. The second time I did not think so much. I also drove a car with leatherette and thought it was way to hot for Texas. I was sweating and asked the MA to turn the AC up. It was only April at the time. I have had leather seats in the past and am not necessarily goo-goo over them. I think the Black Pearl are going to wear well and be cooler. We shall find out in a few weeks when I get my car.

I agree....we bought new F56 with Black Pearl cloth/leatherette seems fine to me, I am just not a leather fan. We actually bought this one because it was the only one without leather seats....and fully optioned out.
Also: I kind of fell in love with the woven gray cloth seats [Black Pearl cloth/leatherette] on the Cooper that featured leather accents. To put it simply, they look classy as ******. I want them on my car. I want them in my house. I want them inside me.
Hey, that's why we went to MINI of Portland. NW MINI and Tacoma MINI are a little closer, but they didn't have as many (or really any) inventory to test drive when we were looking. Seattle also wasn't as friendly or forthcoming over the phone, whereas Portland told us what they had and what they had coming. So, we drove 600 miles to Portland and gave them our business again.
We got our first car when the dealership was Rasmussen MINI; they got bought out by Lithia and became MINI of Portland. They had 3 demo cars to test drive in late March and a load of 30 cars coming across the pond at that time. They have told us that each dealership can get up to 30 slots on each order/shipment...so they have been giving up their spec order slots to put custom orders in their allotment of slots. I'm sure they are selling well, but I know Portland is on at least their 3rd shipment of 2014s because mine just arrived this morning (with at least 20 other cars) and it was supposed to be the third delivery of cars they had ordered. We take delivery tomorrow...about 60 days from actual order date to delivery.
Oh, and the cloth seats were not burlap in material, texture or feel! We just tend to like the carbon punch leather, so we didn't do cloth. Check out some of the other threads that talk about the seats.
