F55/F56 Tire & Wheel / Extended Motor / Extended Maintenance Protection
Tire & Wheel / Extended Motor / Extended Maintenance Protection
I just order my F56 MSC White Silver which will be here late June. I started shopping around to get pricing for Tire & Wheel / Extended Motor / Extended Maintenance protections through Mini Dealers.
TIRE & WHEEL
I was told that 17" Black Cosmos will be around $800 if I had to replace it and they do not cover curb rash.
Q: Do you think any of these are worth it for 5 yrs @ $1695
Q: What was your quote for this coverage?
Extended Motor Protection
I am waiting on a quote so not sure how much this will be but it is something I definitely want to get (6 yr / 100k miles). I was told by another Mini Dealer I can get this later before my warranty run out.
Q: Do you think this is worth it?

Extended Maintenance Program
I am also waiting for a quote on this and I am on the fence on to get this or not. Another dealer also told me that I can get this later before my coverage runs out (3 yrs / 36k miles).

I'll see if I can dig things up. I shouldn't have taken the tire and wheel thing, but I did.
The extended maintenance paid for itself with my R56. So I took it.
The extended warranty back then from the dealer I bought from wasn't company-backed so I declined. But -- my experience with a first-year model, it might have been a good idea if it had been from someone is trust to pay. And with the amount of new stuff on the one I bought -- and that it's company-backed rather than dealer-backed, I paid for it.
Still, these things are nearly pure profit. They can be ok if you keep the car stock and maintained per schedule.
Now, for the tire and wheel -- I've not dented a wheel but have had punctures. I was told (but I did not verify) that it would cover later tires. I shouldn't have gotten this as it locks me into going to the dealer I think for such things. And I'm sure it'll be used to scare you into buying new tires from the dealer.

I have the tire and wheel package. The dealer says they will only replace a damaged wheel if the tire leaks air because of a dent/bent wheel.
The suspension is much softer in the F56 so your likelihood of damage may be reduced.

Thanks dwdyer and champ198 for your feedback.
I am thinking of adding (if I still can - just moved from ordered to scheduled for production) cold package and rear-view camera+PDC for $1600 instead of getting the Tire and Wheel protection for $1695. I didn't think it was worth the money and locking yourself to same OEM tires bothers me.
As for extended maintenance and warranty, My plans are to buy them both before 3yr/36k miles. Thanks again..

My quoted price on the extended maintenance was $2,095 for 6yrs/100K, which I may consider upgrading to depending on how the brakes do in the first few years. I live in a city with some decent hills and horrible roads, my current car has needed brake work pretty much yearly, so if that holds true that 2K may pay for itself easily.
I don't have a single quote for Tire/Wheel, its in a package (Platinum Protection Package) that has Tire/Wheel ($995), Key replacement ($399), Windshield and Dent Repair ($399), all for $1,095 combined, 5 years unlimited miles. I hadn't been considering that one. It doesn't seem to cover enough to be worth while, considering most of that coverage can be had through other, cheaper means.
It all depends on how long you think you will have the car. If you are keeping the car more than 4 years, I would probably advice you to get the coverage.
Everyone is correct, it's a brand new redesign with lots of electronics. Usually if something fails, it will be the first few years.
Extended maintenance $2.1K for an 3 extra years is approx $700 per year. I'm not sure how much is just a regular maintenance at Mini. I'm pretty sure a regular oil and filter change doesn't cost that much. The only thing might be the brake pads as I doubt you'll run them in 3 years.
There are too many restrictions in the Tire/Wheel coverage. I wouldn't advise it. Tires are not too expensive.
I didn't get anything as you are right, they will send you near your warranty expiration date a renewal.

I got the tire and wheel package and it was $1099 for 5 years. I worked it into my monthly payment for my finance.
I already have 2700 miles and had to replace a tire over the weekend. There was a nail right through it :(
Anyway, it is through SafeGuard, which I previously had on my Cadillac. I had the Caddy for a year and had to replace 8 tires (I HATE RUNFLATS!!!). Based on my experiences, anything wrong with your tire (air leaks, bubbles) warrants a replacement. The rim is only covered if it is cracked or something of the like. Cosmetic damage is not covered.
Also, when I got my tire replaced this weekend, no local mini dealers had it in stock and I was able to locate a tire (not the same brand :/) at a Firestone. I just paid for the tire up front, had to fax the bill to SafeGuard after they authorized the replacement, and my check is in the mail. Previous experiences have had me mostly doing tire replacements at dealerships, in which case, the dealer covers it and is reimbursed, nothing out of pocket for me.
Hope this helps!

I have had the wheel/tire package in the past and never used it. IMO you'd have to pretty much aim for potholes, or have the worst luck ever to burn through enough tires to make it worth it. I was quoted $1299 for 5 years btw.
As for the other coverages, I am waiting to see how the car is doing closer to end of the factory warranty to see if I'll even keep it.

I've been considering this one, for a couple reasons: It has a new engine, so reliability isn't yet known, and also I got the Connected system. Not sure how long those things last, but replacing it seems like it'd cost a ton. I was quoted $2,760 for 7 years/70,000 miles (I drive less than 10K miles a year typically, hence the strange duration/miles)

As for tires, all I hear are horror stories about run flats which I have never had. I'll try the stock and will decide to convert to non run flats which won't be long after I get the car. Super excited and can't wait to get my 1st MCS end of June!!!
Thanks everyone for your feedback. When my car come in I am now planning on declining Tire&Wheel and wait for the renewal notice for extended maintenance. As for external warranty, I decided to get it through USAA closer to 4 yr/ 50k miles. The dealer was trying to offer 3rd party extended warranty over MINI XXL program claiming it covers more (which raised a red flag in my book).

thats a good point. it really depends on where you live. in NY/NJ the roads are still horrible from the winter and eats up my tires.
