Storage Compartment in Trunk/Boot

Does that compartment fill the well back there and make it level?

If I order a mat for back there, I want to be sure it fits.

There a video where it shows it adjusting to two heights, one level with the back seats when folded.
"Maximum load in this position: 330 lbs/150 kg."

The compartment recess in the trunk now is pretty big compared to the R56 IMO. Below are pics from a UK Mini parts site that should help you get an idea of the size of it. If you have the "Storage Package" you will also have the lid which is nicely hinged and will cover the recess. This is very nice so when you put the rear seats down you have a nice level storage space going from the boot to the cabin.

I think you have to order the storage package to get the flat floor thing.

Correct. Without the storage pack the trunk/boot would just have the uneven well shown in the second picture above, and not have the flap to make it flat.

I didn't order the storage package so all I have is a well back there covering most of the trunk/boot. Getting just the lid for the compartment ought to make a mat feasible for almost the entire area.

Thanks for the help.

I'm looking to do the same thing, just get the lid and related hardware. My MA is checking with the dealer's parts dept. Let it be known if you find what to order. It has been mentioned that the Storage Pack is available separately, but I only want the lid for a flat floor.

We ordered ours with that hidden storage compartment.

It is big and one can (Hide) a lot of personal items in it that cannot be seen by the public walking by.

Especially if you use a portable GPS etc. that you don't want seen.

It is and was worth the $250.00 dollars for sure.

It also keeps things from sliding all over the rear compartment and that I do like.

I passed on the storage package. I think $10 worth of plywood and carpeting will make a nice level floor

I would like to have the hinged lid or some type of flush lid for the boot. If anyone out there has the list of part numbers for all pieces and parts, please let us know. I imagine it will be a rather expensive undertaking. The storage package should be "must have" is you're ordering a car.

I like the fact, too, that you can hide things there from prying eyes. I'm glad I went with this option. I agree it is well worth the money spent. I like that it is adjustable. It would be hard to create something that would accomplish the same thing. And it does it so nicely and easily.

Great idea! And I'm gonna make a spoiler out of wood from under my house too.

After viewing the pictures above, looks like some installation is involved. I haven't gotten an answer from the dealer or my MA about getting the lid or the compartment, so I may keep it the way it is.

Actually, when I put a "milk crate" and a styrofoam chest in the well, the well is nearly full -- neat and works pretty well for carrying old newspapers, etc. for recycling and items that need to stay cool. The lift-up flap in the back pretty much limits prying eyes.

I never had the urge to cover the boot well, it's fine. I ditched that thingy that is designed to hide what's back there that comes on the car, it hangs from cords. I'd get the cover on the new one if available though. I guess the F56 doesn't have those little net things on each side (I use those).

The video is one of the ones MINI produced with the black guy in a parkade talking to the German guys.

OK, here it is, not as enlightening as I remember.

Ha! Actually I was thinking: Why would someone spend 25-35k on a car and quibble over a 250 dollar accessory package that adds THAT much value??

I wished I'd had gotten it but it slipped my mind when I ordered my car. I wonder if they can add it at the dealer?

My MA told me it can be added after the fact, but told me its $600 rather than the $250 for the option when ordering. I'm not sure if thats $600 installed, or just for parts, so labor on top of that.

I almost didn't get it either, but my MA let me pick everything exactly as I wanted and questioned nothing until I said no to that, then he brought me out to the lot and showed me exactly what it adds and I was sold.

The storage package is a must in my opinion. I was at the dealer today and was really impressed with the added boot and backseat space and the versatility just the storage package adds. Still on the fence of ordering a 2014 though... ugh choices... ha.

Could you supply a part number? My MA has his parts department looking, but nothing has turned up yet.

My problem was it is called "Storage Package" and located under "Audio & Tech" Technology items instead of "Packages", I just missed it. Hopefully it can be added, at least the floor part. I already have the 3rd sun visor and the map pockets.

When I ordered my MCS, of course, there were none at the dealer to look at. It looked like they were nickel and diming for every little feature, so spending money on the trunk of a car wasn't too appealing. If I had seen what it could do, maybe I would have ordered.

However, if it's going to be $600 for the dealer to install, FORGET IT! Right now with the styrofoam cooler and the "milk crate" and some smaller items filling the well, I may not regret skipping the package. Makes good use of that well. Not a big, flat floor with the back seats folded, but... If the lid by itself is available at the dealer for reasonable $$$ -- maybe.
