F55/F56 F56 Reliability Thread
Have any of you watched this review http://recombu.com/cars/reviews/new-...ooper-s-review and starting at 4:25 seen this bloke remove the housing for the shifter? Anyone with a manual had this happen?
So I brought my F56 in for its first service appointment yesterday because it has been shaking when accelerating on the highway. They said that theres something wrong with the front suspension and they had to order parts. They did not have a loaner at the time and said it was safe to drive so I took it back and they said they would call me later in the day when one comes back. So in the afternoon they called me, asking if I could bring it in ASAP, because corporate was on their way to the dealer to come look at it :x I have just over 1600 miles now, after about a week and a half of ownership, and mine was ordered.
Did one of the assembly robots forget to torque the suspension fasteners properly?

Yes sorry. I'll just type up what the service report says for the best idea of what happened:
Customer states there is a shimmy from front end when accelerating at highway speeds. Please check.
Cause: found both front axles are faulty. Out of balance. Road tested vehicle. Verified customer complaint. Road forced balanced both front rims. Found 20 pounds of road force on r/f rim and 17 pounds of road force on l/f rim. Both rims within spec. Swapped rims from other vehicle and road tested vehicle. Vibration is still present. Opened puma case ### as per puma need to replace both front axles. Removed all necessary parts to replace axles. Replaced both front axles. Reinstalled everything removed. Road tested vehicle. Vibration is no longer present.
I'm assuming puma is some sort of corporate case since they came to look at the car while it was at the dealership. In other news, not any person in the service department can work on your car. They have to be specially trained in order to work on the f56. My dealer said 4 out of their 12 service employees were trained to work on it.
I got the car back, it seems ok I guess. Thought I was feeling slight vibrations when I first got it back but it seems to be ok now. I didn't mind having it in the shop because I got to experience the r56 for the first time (a convertible no less
) as a loaner. It was really fun but the f56 is much more refined.

Ugh! Something kind of like that happened on my R50 back in the day. The left front strut was 'bent' or something. I was not very happy, but honestly it was fine after they fixed it. But still, not something you want on a brand new car! :(
I don't immediately believe everything from social media reports like that, starting with how the report is verified. Very common that facts are omitted. First question I have is was this F56 on the list of MINIs with defective oil filter housings. If not, why not. If so, since dealers got the list just before the April 15th release date of the MINI, why was this one not brought right in? And why wouldn't/didn't the oil level sensor detect it was low on oil? A lot of unanswered questions in that Instagram post.
The MINI production video shows the engine being installed from below the car. Removal likely is done from underneath.
not particularly, a new engine would probably be about $3,000. The engine on my last car was replaced (not a Mini) and the only reason they gave me a new one was because I fought it. The car only had 1400 miles when the oil pump failed and destroyed the engine.
Not sure what this is yet, but the exterior plastic rocker on the driver's side is being damaged by something inside. This is about center in the door opening and when you feel the plastic piece, there is clearly something under it. The first picture shows the outline of whatever is inside. The second picture shows the extent of the warping pretty well if you look at the lines of the plastic.
Side note...I am still waiting for a replacement sun visor after it was damaged in delivery, about 40 days ago. The part is backordered.

Umm i see a dent in your bottom frame on the 2nd pic. Seems that it might have pushed up your black plastic piece up.
My sun visor (mirror flap) also got damaged. They've ordered the wrong side so I have to wait longer.

That dent is the issue. There is some bar inside the rocker panel that is pushing outwards and causing the dent. The first picture more clearly shows an outline of the object and when you feel the panel, there is definitely something hard underneath, unlike the rest of it. It'll be interesting to see what it is.
