Should have waited until 2015 model to order

Just saw this article in Motoringfile.com where the 2015 models get Halo LED foglights and automatic climate control as standard. I am more than a bit annoyed that MINI is announcing these new additions shortly after opening their website for configuration. Also annoyed that they added the accessories section just after I ordered (and just built) my Cooper as I would have added the driving lights at $311 (to add now is $861 at the port). MINI fumbled this rollout pretty bad.

Hi russmini,

The article only mentions these upgrades being available for all 2015 R5X models. Which means the new 2014/2015 F56 hardtop that just launched would not apply to these upgrades. What mini model did you just order?

Yeah I hate these add ins that show up late! Destination XXXL just announced that their size 56 x 32 harbor jeans will now come with a free leather belt! You know how much leather costs? And with the length I'm having to purchase, I could feed a family of 4 in West LA.
And I bought two (2) pairs just last week!!!!!!

You may be right, but I would think that these would be standard across all the lines for 2015. Guess we will find out.

Cool Sounds like daddy long legs But I did exaggerate just a mite on the waist size But I am a big fella and love my MINI. 6 ft 300 lb Yeah, I know......round. But it's still very comfy. Glad I can add some humor where sometimes there's doom and despair! Plus I think many of posts in almost any forum anywhere are funny when takin with a grain of saltz!

When do they start shipping the 2015s? Surely they wouldn't make the F56 2014 production year just a few months. If the '15s are coming out soon, I wonder how many will cancel their orders for the '14s.

I would think you could still wait for the increased price of the 2015 to see if you should have waited to buy one. Accessory prices in the configurator are estimates and do not include installation charges by the dealer or port. It says so in "the fine print" on your summary.

Your Mini dealer will gladly sell your 2014, while you wait for the 2015's. You will then get what you want. In the mean time Mini will make changes.

There appears to be 2 sets of accessory sections on the MINI site, one under the configurator in which the driving lights are $311 and would seem to indicate they are installed at the factory ( hence in the configurator). The other section is under MINI Motoring Accessories in which the lights are listed at $535.90 with "the fine print" at the bottom that states these prices exclude installation charges, and would seem to indicate they are purchased at the dealer. Rather confusing.

The statement I referred to is in the summary of the build configurator. Click on "the fine print."

Buying the first year model refresh is always risky. There's always gonna be interior upgrades and flaws worked out throughout the model's years. Is it even possible to cancel your order and get your $1k deposit back if your F56 has already been built?

@Melangell

It would appear from your previous posts that you have appointed yourself the NAM forum designated troll. Good to know.

Speaking of the lights...

I bought those and installed myself on my R56f. Took 5 hours. After at the dealership the head mechanic was laughing and saying that Mini only paid the dealership 2 hours for a 5 hour job. He hated installing the light. Clearly they have addressed that issue on the F56.
You guys really should install yourself. Very satisfying and really a good Saturday project! Bonds you to the car and you get to know how to run cables through the firewall. No heavy lifting required!!! I can see paying Mini to install a big brake kit but with the lights you have zero excuse...and you get paid $200/hour!

If a 2015 version comes out only a few months after the 2014 models started arriving, it sure can take some of the joy out of that 2014 you just bought or are about the pick up.

Whether a customer can get the deposit back would depend on the dealer, but I was told that often the customer can get the deposit back -- unless the ordered car had a weird set of options.

I read somewhere on this forum that there needed to be an ecu adjustment to make the driving lights work. True?

I read that the front has to come off in the F56...I guess they meant the grill & the bumper?
